Pick Up/Drop Off and Parking Guidance
North Lot - Staff and Students Only
Parents are NOT allowed to park in the North lot.
The North lot is designated as a PERMIT-ONLY parking area for staff (shown in yellow) and students (shown in light blue). Students pay $50 annually for a guaranteed, safe spot to park their cars and go to school. Check out our Student Parking Permit guidelines for more about how to purchase permits, as well as expectations for drivers.
There is NO student pick up after school in the North lot. Instead, please follow guidance outlined below for picking up students in the loop and for parking in designated parent parking areas.
Staff may also park in the lot in front of the Elementary and Secondary school buildings.
Elementary and South Lots + Traffic Loop for Student Pick Up / Drop Off
Elementary - Morning Drop Off Times
Students in the K-5th grade Elementary building can be dropped off as early as 7:45AM and will enter the building at 7:55AM. Designated signs will inform families of where students line up. School starts at 8AM.
Secondary - Morning Drop Off Times
Students in our 6th-12th grade Secondary building may be dropped off as early as 7:45AM at the front door (southwest) and go to the Commons to wait for the first bell at 8:05AM. School starts at 8:10AM.
Elementary - Afternoon Pick Up
Pickup times are as follows:
2:45 to 3:00 PM - Kindergarten (1:15 to 1:30pm on Wednesday)
3 to 3:15 PM - 1st - 5th grade (1:30pm on Wednesday)
Families of Kindergarten students must park in our designated lot and pick up their student from the Kindergarten playground. Please do not leave your car unattended in the Hug and Go Lane while retrieving your student.
1st - 5th grade students - If your last name ends in A-J, pick up at 3:00PM. If your last name ends in K-Z, arrive at 3:05PM. Splitting the pick up means 300 kids getting picked up per shift instead of 600 all at one time. Your carpool situation dictates what shift works best for you.
1st - 5th grade students will exit the building with their teacher to designated areas in front of the Elementary Building and await parent arrival. Please proceed through the loop to your student's designated line spot (signs will be present to indicate grade level lines). The Hug and Go Lane is also our pickup lane. Students are not to cross into the continuous drive lane to get into a vehicle. You may also park in the designated lot and cross the crosswalk to retrieve your student in person from their teacher. All students must be picked up by 3:15 PM. After 3:15, PM elementary students will be placed in the care of our Eagles Landing program and families will be charged accordingly.
Secondary - Afternoon Pick Up
Pickup times are as follows:
3:35 PM (2:10PM on Wednesday)
If your last name ends in A-J, pick up at 3:35PM. If your last name ends in K-Z, pick up at 3:45PM. This will also split pick up into two shifts. Your carpool situation dictates what shift works best for you.
Students in grades 6-12 will exit the building and await parent arrival. Please have a plan in place with your middle or high schooler for pickup. The Secondary building will be open until 4 PM each day for students not participating in an extracurricular club or activity to wait in the commons for pickup. After 4 PM all secondary students will be placed in the care of our Eagles Landing program and families will be charged accordingly.
Siblings in Elementary / Secondary
Families with students in both Elementary and Secondary may register for the Elementary Afternoon Supervision program, subject to space availability. Elementary students in the program will be supervised from 3PM to 3:35PM while they wait for their sibling's dismissal from the Secondary School. There will be a $40 monthly charge per student to staff this additional service to families. Registration is required. Students in the Elementary Afternoon Supervision Program must be picked up by 3:45 PM by either an adult or their Middle/High School sibling.
Entering the Loop and Parent Parking Lots
Main Entrance - Enter the loop off Washington, as indicated in the map above (yellow arrow). You will drive eastbound and form two lanes, one headed toward the parent parking lot (green arrow) and one toward the continuous drive & drop lanes (yellow arrow). If you need to park or exit your car for ANY REASON you should plan to park (follow the green arrow). At the first split, drivers on the continuous drive & drop route should form two lanes (yellow/red arrows). Keep to the right (red) lane for Hug and Go drop off in front of the Elementary building or move to the left (yellow) lane for continuous traffic flow toward the Secondary building or the loop exit.
North Entrance - In the morning (THE NORTH PARKING LOT IS CLOSED AFTER SCHOOL-- NO PICK UP ALLOWED UNTIL AFTER 4PM), families can also choose to utilize the North entrance to drop off (through traffic signal). You will need to make a full loop around the North parking lot (purple arrow) driving past the north side of the Secondary Building, west side of the Field House and front of the Performing Arts building. You will exit at the traffic signal. From this entrance, there is no Hug and Go lane next to the Secondary building and you cannot access the loop closest to the Elementary building. As a reminder, parking in the North lot is reserved ONLY for staff and students with assigned permits. THE NORTH PARKING LOT IS CLOSED AFTER SCHOOL-- NO PICK UP ALLOWED UNTIL AFTER 4PM.
Exiting the Loop and Parent Parking Lots
To exit the Stargate loop, please proceed through the traffic loop, past the Secondary Building, past the field house, to the northern-most portion of our property and exit on to Washington at the traffic signal. Signs are posted and cones will help direct traffic.
To exit from the parent parking, follow the route indicated by the green arrows in the map above back to the main Stargate entrance. Do not sit and wait to cut across Washington to u-turn and go south. Turn right on Washington, go north to the light on 146th and make a legal u-turn at the light. It is A LOT faster and safer to get out then waiting and impeding the flow of traffic.
Dos and Don'ts for the Loop
- Do not leave your car unattended in the Loop, including the Hug and Go lane. If you need to get out of your car to assist your child or for any other reason, please park.
- Do drop your student off ANYWHERE along the Hug and Go lane. The quickest place is often PAST the buildings. Pull as far forward as possible.
- Do cross ONLY at the crosswalks if you park.
- Do use extra caution at crosswalks if you're driving. Pay careful attention to students crossing from parking lots to their buildings.
- Do not take "shortcuts" that cut through parking lots or that follow ANY route except those designated by the arrows above.
- Do wait until after the first split to enter the continuous drive & drop lanes. Don't pull into the "green" lane headed to the parent parking lot and then cut in front of other drivers at the split to join continuous drive & drop traffic.
- Do try to be as quick as possible in the loop.
- Do not plan to pick up or drop off your student(s) on Washington. Violators may receive tickets from Thornton police.
- NEVER STOP AND WAIT ON WASHINGTON STREET. You block the sight of cars exiting and cutting across Washington. It’s only a matter of time before we have an accident.
- Do make friends! Stargate is a community and CARPOOL is the best way to make a strong community!
Special Note: Merging Lanes & Morning Drop Off
Within the continuous drive and drop lane, please use the yellow lane shown here in the "Drop Off Guidelines" map for morning drop off at Secondary. This route is NOT to be used to drive past other families and cut into the Red Lane for K-5 drop off. Secondary students following this route may be dropped on the south or west side of the Secondary building.
Please use the red lane in this map for K-5 drop off. Please wait in the red lane to drop your child off (vs. cutting in and out of the yellow lane). Do not exit the vehicle. Please use the entire red lane for all K-5 drop off, regardless of your child's grade.
Carpool / Transportation Options
Stargate does not provide transportation to or from the school.
Families are encouraged to carpool. To help facilitate ride sharing, Stargate is listed with Way to Go School Pool. Way to Go is a regional partnership between the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and a group of Transportation Management Associations (TMAs). For the secure link set up for Stargate families, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions and Reminders
Please be patient as we all drop off and pick up students. Please stay off your cell phone until you have safely exited Stargate property. We ask that you make our students' safety a priority and take the extra time to get them to class safe and sound. We know the Stargate parking and loop facilities are not ideal. However, if we all work together and follow the rules, we can make a difference and improve traffic flow.
