Knowledge Bowl State Champions: Congratulations to the Stargate High School Knowledge Bowl team. They are 3A State Champs!! Way to go Eagles!
HOSA State Competition: Congratulations to the Stargate HOSA Future Health Professionals. They competed at State last week with over 1600 other health science students from across the state of Colorado. We had 49 Stargate students competing and 37 of them were finalists (top 10 in their events), and 27 of those qualified for Nationals. Rhea Masand represented Stargate as a State Officer, and Suyash Shrestha was elected as a State Officer for the 2024-2025 school year. HOSA is about medical science, but it is also about teamwork, creativity, communication, leadership and service. Thank you to Mrs. McVeigh for sponsoring this amazing club. Way to go Eagles! International Academics, Regional Winner: James Waldron, 6th grade, took first place in both history bee and geography bee in International Academic Competitions' Colorado Regional winter finals, held Feb. 10. Answering paragraph-length quiz questions in a buzzer format, James qualified for national and international competition in history (testing knowledge of the history of all eras and all parts of the world), and geography (testing knowledge of the political, human, cultural, and physical geography of all parts of the world). He will compete in the National Championships on Memorial Day weekend in Orlando. Congrats and good luck to James!
Charter Champion: Junior Griffin Schafer was one of 20 student leaders statewide invited to represent Colorado's charter school community Feb. 1 for Charter School Advocacy Day at the state capitol. Griffin was selected this year by the Colorado League of Charter Schools for its Charter Champions advocacy training program. Griffin is the first Stargate student invited to join the program. In addition to participating in Advocacy Day and the League’s Annual Conference, Charter Champions take part in cohort seminars, meetings with Colorado legislators, and other efforts to foster positive action for charter schools.
A New School Record: Senior Dylan Perkins became Stargate's first 1000-point varsity athlete and the school's all-around leading scorer as he led the high school boys' basketball team to victory Jan. 26 in their game vs Arrupe Jesuit.
Outstanding Science Teacher: Middle School science teacher Mrs. McGuire has been awarded the 2023-24 Colorado Association of Science Teachers (CAST) Teaching Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Education. This state award is bestowed annually to one teacher in each teaching level who demonstrates exemplary science teaching talents and accomplishments. We are so fortunate to have Mrs. McGuire here with us and receiving this honor!
District Honor Band: Elizabeth Clement, senior, was selected to perform with the Adams 12 District Honor Band under the direction of UNC’s Associate Director of Music, Dr Broadnaux. She was nominated by Mountain Range’s band director, David Evans, after exemplifying her musicianship skills in their band program. The honor band performed Jan. 20.
Piano Duo Champions: Five Stargate pianists placed among the tops in their divisions in the United States International Duo Piano Competition Jan 5-7. Ava Lee, junior, and her partner placed 2nd in the Level VII division. Laura Ence, junior, and her partner placed 2nd in the Level VI division. Charlotte Ence, 6th grade, and Hannah Tan, 4th grade, placed 3rd in the Level IV division. Zephan Lee, 5th grade, and his partner placed 2nd in the Level III division.
Making "News" with Northglenn Youth Theatre: Stargate students joined the cast and crew of "Newsies - A Broadway Musical," for its run Nov. 10-19 at the Parsons Theatre in Northglenn. Cast members included freshman Max Morley as Crutchie, junior Lia Morley as Finch and senior Loki Swan as Spot Conlon. Senior Elizabeth Clement served as the show's Production Assistant. Northglenn Youth Theatre has been providing youth the opportunity to perform in professional live theatrical shows since 1994, earning numerous local and national awards.
3rd at Water Polo State Finals: the Adams 12 Five Star Schools' district-wide water polo team, including three Stargate students, finished 3rd at the Colorado High School Water Polo League State Championships Nov 4 at the United States Air Force Academy. Water polo team members from Stargate included senior Gavin Carter and sophomores Andrew Carter and Alan Klopp. Way to go team!
2nd at State Cross-Country Championship: senior Allison Pippert placed second in state at the Class 3A girls Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28, covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:52.6. She was named first-team to the CHSAA 2023 Girls Cross Country All-State Teams, which are presented by CHSAANow.com and MaxPreps. In addition to honors at the state level, Allison claimed her third straight League title this year, earning the League's Cross Country Runner of the Year as well as the Senior of the Year. Great job Allison!!
Kindergarten Record Holder: Shaarav Shyam earned a place in the America Book of Records this summer as the Fastest to Recite 50 U.S. States (5 years old). With a time of 38 seconds, the kindergarten student was selected for an ABR Icon Award 2023. In addition to naming the states, Shaarav can – without any references – recite facts like state capitals, state nicknames, state animals, famous monuments and more. The ABR is an independent record authority similar to the Guinness World Records, offering a fully digital platform to showcase extra ordinary talents. Congratulations Shaarav!
Stargate Scoreboard Celebration: The scoreboard is up and running! Many thanks to the community for your fundraising support over the years that helped make this possible. Special thanks goes to Stargate Junior, Chase Smith for leading the charge, Lynne Whitney, Dave Logan, Doug Ryan and many others behind the scenes. Stargate Sophomore Volleyball Champ: Stargate sophomore, Callum Taylor and his volleyball team, the Lobos, took home the Bronze in the USA Boys National Championship in Salt Lake City, UT, representing Colorado boys top Open division U16 / age 15s. Congratulations Callum!
Stargate High School Awards: Our Stargate High School Fall Awards Ceremony will take place at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19th in the Stargate gym. At this ceremony, we will honor our National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists, our AP and College Board award recipients from the 2022-2023 school year, and our academic letter winners from the 2022-2023 school year. Stargate Senior Tegan Medina Swings for Fences: Tegan Medina shines bright on the softball field playing for Riverdale Ridge Ravens . Tegan collected three hits in three at bats, as Riverdale Ridge Varsity Ravens defeated University 15-4 on Thursday. Medina hit a solo home run to center field in the second inning, singled in the third inning, and doubled in the fifth inning. Tegan was named player of the game! Congrats Tegan!
Silver Medals in Water Polo Junior Olympics: Stargate water polo players competed July 30 in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics national tournament in Texas. Sophomores Andrew Carter and Alan Klopp's 16U Colorado Water Polo team earned 2nd place silver medals in the Gold division. Senior Gavin Carter's 18U mountain zone team, with players from Colorado and New Mexico, placed 7th in the Platinum division.
1st Place in 12-Hour Mountain Bike Relay: Stargate cross country mountain bikers picked up 1st place medals in the 12-hour relay "Sunrise to Sunset" race in Winter Park on July 22. The 5-person youth team completed 14 seven-mile laps on their way to their 1st place finish. The team included senior Gavin Carter, juniors Anson Ward and Steven Prososki, and sophomores Andrew Carter and Jack Mueller. Way to go!
National Champions: Lucy Herbert and Pranav Bandaru won first in the nation at the National History Day Competition this summer with their documentary on The Highways To The Future. The duo competed in the Junior Group Documentary category, representing Colorado after taking 1st in the state competition earlier this year. Congratulations to Pranav and Lucy and their coach, Mr. DeFord!
National Cadet Squadron Competition : senior Gavin Carter and his 6-member Civil Air Patrol Cadet Squadron team competed against 16 teams at nationals July 12-18. Gavin's team qualified for and won 1st place at their regional cadet competition in Boise, ID after winning 1st place in the Colorado Wing event in April. Way to go!
FBLA National Conference : Stargate's future business leaders competed in June at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta. More than 14,000 students and teachers attend the annual Future Business Leaders of America event. Way to represent!
2023 Coach of the Year : Officer Mike Couture, was named "2023 Coach of the Year" by the Colorado Association of School Resource Officers. In addition to his daily SRO duties at Stargate, Officer Couture coached Stargate High School Cross Country and Track and Middle School Girls Basketball. Congratulations Officer Couture. We are proud you're ours!
