Meet and Greet With Michael Henderson

Please join us on May 13 at 6:30 in the Secondary Commons for  a Meet and Greet with our new Executive Director of Academics, Michael Henderson.

Knowledge Bowl National Championship Tournament

Stargate High School Knowledge Bowl students travelled to Chicago for the NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament. It was their first ever tournament using these particular rules and content while most teams have been playing these for years. They played against 152 of the best teams in the country.

Our kids started the tournament with a tough draw, the eventual 2nd place team. They bounced back for the next nine rounds and faced some fierce competition. They qualified for the 2nd day playoff rounds (something nobody there expected of our kids!) and won before eventually being eliminated by the 7th place team. In the end, Stargate took 17th place in the country. Had we the benefit of years of experience in this format/content, I believe that our kids would have been in there at the end challenging for the title! Special congrats to Jacob Tow who despite being sick was the 28th highest ranked player in the Open division, the toughest division (private and charter schools).

One last note... nearly every team we met raved about what a cool name "Stargate" is!

Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs event June 3-7

This event is free and open to any student at Stargate (any student who attends school and / or lives in the City of Thornton) between the ages of 11-14.  There are limited spots so early application is best.

The program is run by Officer Walker’s unit, Youth Services, which consists of all the SRO's.  The main mission in schools is to form relationships with the students and families in our community.  This programs allows us to do just that in a different, more relaxed environment.

The "classroom portion" takes place at one of two locations, north or south... you must pick one.  That Friday, the SROs take the students, via school bus, fishing at St. Vrain (Firestone), and have a cookout.  It's proven to be a very fun week. More information can be found HERE.

Thornton Police Department's 2019 Youth Academy

This academy is designed for high school students (14-18 years old), but will accept 8th graders who will be freshmen next fall.

This is a citizen's police academy for teens.  Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn about police operations topics such as SWAT, self defense, police communications, drug and alcohol education, K-9's, CSI, emergency vehicle operations... and more.  The Youth Services Unit (Officer Walker’s SRO unit) puts this academy on, and it's low key and fun.

The cost to attend is free.  The academy will held at the Thornton Police Department, at Thornton Parkway and I-25, June 17th-June 21st, 8am-4pm.  Officer Walker has applications and tri-fold brochures in his office if you are interested in additional information.

GIRL SCOUT BOOK DRIVE

The 2nd grade Girl Scout Troop 771 is sponsoring a book drive to benefit A Precious Child.  Please bring your new or used Children's or Young Adult Books to Stargate and place them in the yellow collection bin at the front of the Elementary Office.  The girls are hosting this book drive in order to complete their World of Girls Journey, wherein they needed to take action to make the world a better place. Have too many books to bring to school?  Please contact their leader Paige at 303-868-2382 and she will take them off your hands.

Stargate Fundraising

Annual Campaign 2018-1019

The Stargate Annual Campaign is still open - it's not too late to donate! Our Annual Campaign is an opportunity to show your support by making a one-time gift OR signing up for a monthly recurring deduction using our secure, online donation form located here. Please consider a tax deductible donation of $200 per family as an investment that will benefit our children for years to come.

In addition, many companies match charitable donations; we encourage you to determine if your company provides this benefit. If you have questions about matching gifts or Annual Campaign donations, please contact the Stargate Director of Operations and Finance, Lynne Allen, at 303-450-3936 or via email at: lynne.allen@stargateschool.org.

The Annual Campaign touches every aspect of our school and helps maintain the academic excellence for which we are known.
