Windsock Day

Today was a great success for our first Windsock Day! The 1st - 5th grade students came into the Commons while the kindergartners were safe and sound in the gym. The staff was ready and prepared for supervision and making sure everyone was safe and sound in the correct location.

A big thank you to all the parents for dropping students off at the door. There are hundreds of students we are trying to get into the building and we appreciate your cooperation.

Inclement Weather Plan

Stargate follows the Adams 12 School District directives for inclement weather school closure. Updates regarding school closure or late start can be found on the Adams12 website (www.adams12.org). In addition to a full day cancellation, Adams 12 has instituted a Late Start option. In the case of a Late Start, classes will begin at 10:00 to allow for safe travel in the morning.

Head Lice

There have been several confirmed cases of Head Lice in our school.  The students who were found to have an active case of head lice have been treated.  It is recommended that you check your child’s head weekly for any evidence of head lice.

If your child is found to have head lice, do not panic or place blame.  Anyone can get head lice.  Head lice have nothing to do with cleanliness.  The good news is that head lice cannot harm your child. They are a nuisance and can cause your child itching and irritation.

When checking for head lice, look for tiny silvery egg sacs (nits) on the hair shaft near the scalp, especially at the nape of the neck and behind the ears.  A true nit cannot be moved off the hair shaft without a nit comb.  It looks like dandruff or dry scalp but does not remove easily. An adult head louse is approximately 1/16 inch long (the size of half a sesame seed) and generally takes on the color of the child’s hair.  Head lice move quickly to avoid the light.  Head lice do not fly, jump or swim.  Head lice are spread by direct contact from head to head.

If you see LIVE lice, then your child should be treated with a head lice product according to package directions.  A daily nit check is recommended for at least 10 days following treatment.  Although nit removal is tedious, removing all nits will ensure complete treatment.   All nits should be removed.

For questions, please contact your child's primary care doctor.

Vision and Hearing Screening October 17 and October 21

Students in K-3 and 5th grades will have Vision and Hearing Screening next week. If your child wears glasses, please be sure they bring their glasses to school with them on their scheduled screening day. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday 10/17 grades 3, 5, 1/2 who are not going on the field trip (Ross, Falace, Kim, Ramsey)

Thursday  10/19 Kindergarten and the half of 1/2 who are not on the field trip (Bolger, Matinac, Spletzer, Walls)

We Need Your Help! We are looking for some parents to lend us their eyes and ears! We are looking for a group of volunteers that can help with vision and hearing screenings. If you are available to help from 8:00AM - 10:30AM either day, we would greatly appreciate your assistance. Training will be provided. To volunteer, please use the Sign-Up Genius link below: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c45a8aa2da0fc1-stargate2
