Hischke's Happenings! December 5, 2016

posted Dec 5, 2016, 4:19 PM by Jane Baker

Winter is Coming!

Hopefully everyone is prepared for a few days of very cold weather. Please remember to bundle your students up in their warmest winter clothes. Look for the “windsocks” hanging in both entrances to Stargate and have your elementary students head to the Commons to get out of the cold and into the warm building. Please remember to be kind in the loop! We are beginning to have more student drivers each month and we want them to be able to drive with confidence. We have an abundance of night events happening over the next few weeks. Please feel free to park in the Hug and Go Lane during night and after school events if the other parking lots are full.

I know I’m a week late, but I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving Break. I know that it is my favorite holiday to spend with family and friends and sit back to be grateful for so many things in my life.

A big thank you goes out to the parent volunteers that came in on Friday morning to help grade the Geography Bee Tests. I love the dedicated group of parents we have in our community!

We will need more parent volunteers to help grade the Spelling Bee tests this Friday morning. If you are able to come in and help, that would be FANTASTIC! Please email me at missy.hischke@stargateschool.org if you are available.

Stargate's 3rd Annual National Geographic Bee School Competition

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee.  Students in grades four through eight are eligible for this competition.  There are three levels of competition: school, state, and national.  The winning student from each school must take the written qualifying test in order to advance to the state competition.  Preliminary written competition will be conducted in individual classrooms before December 2 to determine the students that will advance to the final National Geographic School Bee Competition which will be held at Stargate on Wednesday, December 7 at 6:30 pm in the Elementary Commons. State Bees are held March 31, 2017 & the National Championship will be held May 15 - 17.

K-5 Saturday Basketball at Stargate

Want to play basketball in an environment that allows for fun and excitement? Beginning January 21 2017, we will continue our tradition (15th year in a row!) of a providing a basketball league for K - 5th grade boys and girls at Stargate.  All practices and games will be held in the Stargate School Field House. If you are interested in participating, please click here to complete the following by January 6, 2017.    Fee is $30 if you already have a jersey and $50 if you do not have a jersey.  Once you sign up, the fee will be added to your Infinite Campus fees and can be paid on payforit.net.  Practices and games will be on Saturdays for all players.  K-2nd grade will play from 8am-9:15am and 3rd-5th grade will play from 9:30am-10:45am.  We will play every Saturday through March 11th (No games Feb 18th).  Our ability to manage this activity and the number of students we can take will depend upon the amount of parent involvement. Parent volunteer coaches are crucial to this great experience for our kids and we need all the help we can get!

Lost and Found items will be donated to some wonderful organizations on December 15th. Please stop by and pick up your lost coats, hats, lunch boxes and pokemon cards!

Have a great week!
