Yearbook Club for 5th Grade Students

A yearbook club made up of 5th graders is in the works.  We would like to have 5 kids from each of homeroom class in the club.  It’s a first-come, first serve basis so when the spots are filled by the first meeting, it is full.

The committee will meet on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 in a classroom to be determined.  The group will be led by our volunteer Moms, Dita Darrah and Stacy Tempas.  The first meeting is January 11.  The students will meet every week until the middle of March when the book will be sent to the publisher.

The kids will have the opportunity to select the pictures and layout of the book as well as selecting the style, colors and design.  This will be a fun, team effort and they will get to interact with other grades as well to collect photos.  The kids will need to commit to the time requirement in order for us to meet the deadline.

Below is a link to the sign-up for the committee.

A Note From Our Counselor, Lauren Gibson:

Cultural Awareness in December

During the month of December, our students have been focusing on Cultural Awareness and different holidays around the world! I have absolutely loved the curiosity about different cultures and the empathy that the students have been showing towards others in the classrooms and in the hallways. At home, please feel free to learn about different cultures, traditions and holidays around the world with your child. I hope the students become aware and knowledgeable about other cultures and traditions as they grow up in today's world!

This month, the students are also learning about how to manage anger with lessons from the Second Step social-emotional curriculum. Please practice different strategies at home that can help your child manage emotions. I love deep breathing, journaling, mindfulness, positive imagery, eating healthy and especially staying active! The weather is supposed to improve so spend a lot of time soaking up the sun and enjoying the outdoors. Please remember to start the day off in a positive light and encourage your child in any way possible!

Holiday Giving Tree

‘Tis the season for sharing and helping others in need. We are collecting gifts and gift cards for families in need from Leroy Drive Elementary, as well as some Stargate families. Please see the gift tags in the front office for specific items requested and return the gifts and gift cards to the front office. Gift cards from Target, Walmart, and King Soopers are always welcome. Please remember to attach the tag with the gift and leave at the front office by December 15.

Dressember

For many people, the idea of making an actual difference feels impossible and out of reach. When you donate to an organization, it is tough to know where your money goes, and that is why Dressember makes it a priority to ensure your gifts go toward life-changing efforts truly aiding the fight for human dignity.

When you donate to (or fundraise on behalf of) Dressember, you are a part of large, anti-trafficking grants that provide our partners with grants that move the needle forward toward actual change. Our community is passionate about saving lives, and so are we. This is why we believe it is important for our advocates and donors to know their efforts are being poured directly into the most impactful projects and programs in fight for freedom.

BYOD Guidelines for 5th Grade Families
