Elementary Assessments - Sept 1 and 2

posted Aug 26, 2016, 4:50 PM by Lisa Griffin

Here is the plan for next week's assessments.  There are a few changes from what we have done in the past so please read carefully.  Please note that every student MUST be signed up for assessments.

Thursday September 1, 2016

All Kindergarten students will take the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA II) to assess their letter recognition and reading skills. Each assessment will take approximately 15 minutes and you need to reserve a time for your student to be assessed. Make sure you scroll through the Sign-Up Genius and find your child's homeroom teacher and sign up under their name for an available time slot.

Please make sure you arrive on time so the teachers can stay on schedule. Kindergarten parents may wait and create a Hands-on Minds-on project in our Adroit Space while your student completes their DRA.

1st and 2nd Grade Students
All 1st and 2nd grade students will take both the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA II) and a beginning of year MAPS assessment (we will take both reading and math assessments at the beginning and end of the year). The entire process will take approximately 90 minutes and you need to use the Sign-Up Genius link to reserve a time. We will test 50 students during each time slot.
Please make sure your student arrives on time so the teachers can stay on schedule.
Parents, please plan to drop off and pick up your student at the designated times. You do not need to wait at the school while they are assessed.

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students
All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students need to be at school from 8:00 am to 10:00 am for a writing assessment. There is no need to sign up for an assessment time, just drop your student off and have them follow their normal morning routine. The teachers will be in the back of the school to greet them and bring them into the building at 7:55 am so they can start promptly at 8:00 am. Please drive through the Hug and Go lanes or park in the parking lot to pick up your child at 10:00 am.

Friday September 2, 2016
The teachers will work in their teaching teams to analyze the data and appropriately place the students in their literacy and math classes. Please know that this is a lengthy process and the goal is to start math and literacy classes on Wednesday, September 7. These placements will be fluid for a few weeks as we continue to collect data to challenge each individual student.
