C Notes 9/5/17

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! We are in full swing at the school with Secondary students getting into their routines and Elementary students starting preliminary math and literacy placements. So much time and effort is placed on our students placements at all grade levels and I want to thank the teachers and community members for their support of our goal to challenge each students individual academic abilities.

We have a variety of activities and events at the school that we would love to have your support at. Check out all the happenings on our Master Calendar and get involved in our school!

Next week our middle schoolers will head off on their 3 day overnight adventures. 6th grade will head to Keystone Science School, 7th and 8th grades will focus on building trust and teamwork at Camp Cheley. These memories will last a lifetime for our students and staff. I want to thank our staff and parent chaperones for taking time away from their families to help make these experiences come to life for our kids.

Our next Governance Board meeting is Wednesday, September 13, at 6:30pm in the secondary building. This is a great chance to see the workings of a charter school and this month you can hear a Secondary School update from Mr. Cable. During the meeting on October 18th. Mrs. Hischke will update the board on all the great work they are doing in the Elementary School. WATCH D.O.G.S. Program

We are excited to launch our WATCH D.O.G.S. Program for 2017-2018 school year! Several parents have expressed interest in the program and we would like to invite all Dads to attend an orientation meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 21 at 5:30 pm in the K-5 Building in Ms. Wiley’s classroom. There will be a brief overview of the program and overall expectations, a tour of the buildings on campus, and pizza will be served. We hope to see you all there. The online sign-up system will be ready after the meeting for those that would like to volunteer. Please review the link below for more information about the WATCH D.O.G.S. Program.


Accountability Committee

Self-Nominations for the Stargate School Accountability Committee (SAC) are open NOW through September 11 at 10 pm. The nominating form can be found HERE.  Elections will be September 18 – 25. The positions available this time are:

            3 Parents (2, two-year terms and 1, one-year term)

            3 Staff (2, two-year terms and 1, one-year term).

Elections will be held for 3 seats each, parents will elect the top 3 parent candidates and Staff members will elect the top 3 staff candidates. Terms will be determined by the winners of the election.

We will also be open to answer questions, next Thursday, September 7, between 8am and 9:30 am (after drop-off) at the Starbucks at the Orchard. Members from both Accountability and Recruiting will be available to answer any questions you have concerning the purpose and responsibilities of the SAC.

Fundraising Committee

Fundraising Committee Meeting Notice

The Fundraising Committee needs volunteers! We will be holding an Open House on Thursday, September 7th from 5-6pm in the Stargate Secondary Building (Commons area). If you like planning events and want to get involved in your child's school, the Fundraising Committee is the place to be! We have several crucial fundraising programs that need support - no experience necessary.

There will be a Fundraising meeting, Thursday, September 7th at 6:00pm in the Stargate Secondary Building (in the College Room) immediately following the open house. This meeting is open to the community and anyone interested in giving back or becoming more involved in the Stargate community is encouraged to attend - hope you can join us!  If you are unable to attend but would like to find out more about the Fundraising Committee, please email fundraising@stargateschool.org.


King Soopers Fundraising Gift Cards

Support Stargate fundraising efforts by purchasing a Stargate reloadable King Soopers gift card; these are available for purchase at the Stargate Secondary front office. Every time you reload the card King Soopers will donate 5% of the reloaded amount to Stargate (at no cost to you). You can even reload directly at the register before you purchase your items. Use the cards for your grocery shopping or  when purchasing gas -- support your school while you shop.  This is a way for King Soopers to encourage shoppers to patronize their store and for them to support non-profit organizations. If just 300 Stargate families reload their cards with $200 each month to use on groceries and/or gas our school will earn $3,000/month and $36,000/year! This is one of the easiest ways to help Stargate earn $$!!!

Stargate Fall Fundraiser

Our Fall Fundraiser is just around the corner -- the kick-off will be on 9/20 and run thru 10/9. More details will be forthcoming. The Fundraising Committee is looking for volunteers to help our chair, Barbra Duncan, execute this vital fundraising effort. We need 2-3 volunteers from both the Elementary community and 2 more volunteers to help support the Middle School effort. Please contact fundraising@stargateschool.org to get involved and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!


Box Tops and Longmont Dairy Milk Caps

Start collecting and organizing Box Tops and Longmont Dairy milk caps as we will kick-off our first contest on September 25th. For more information, click here.


Chick-fil-A Dining Out

September 26th Chick-Fil-A Dining Out (from opening to closing) at the Larkridge location: 16670 Washington St, Thornton, CO 80023.  Be sure to let the cashier know that you are from Stargate – we’ll get 20% of all Stargate sales. This is the  Chick-Fil-A at Larkridge location (I-25 and Hwy 7).

Annual Fundraising Gala - mark your calendar!

Our annual fundraising Gala will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at The Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, CO. If you are interested in helping plan this event please contact fundraising@stargateschool.org. Our preparations are in full swing and we can always use the extra help!

Stargate Tailgate

Come join the National Honor Society September 9th from 10-2 for the first annual Stargate Tailgate! We’ll have hotdogs and concession foods for sale, tons of lawn games, and basketball/volleyball pickup games in the field house. Entrance fees are $1.00 per person or $5.00 for families. Any profit will be donated to help Hurricane Harvey victims. Contact Ms. Walsh with any questions: meaghan.walsh@stargateschool.org.


Community Relations Committee

The Community Relations Committee will hold its next meeting at Daylight Donuts (14352 Lincoln St #107) on Wednesday, September 13th at 8:15 a.m. If you are interested in joining us, please email crc@stargateschool.org to be added to our distribution list. At the meeting we will work on Parent/Teacher Conferences and Harry Potter Night.


Harry Potter Fanfiction and Fan Art Contests!

Leading up to our "Harry Potter and the Gate of Stars" fun night (please feel free to add it to your calendar now - Friday October 27, 2017  6pm-8:30), we are having a Fan Fiction writing contest and a Fan Fiction art contest. Judged by teachers and parents, the winners will receive an awesome prize - either  Harry Potter: A History of Magic or A Journey Through the History of Magic.  The only 'catch' is that either fiction or art must have a "Gate of Stars" tie-in. Complete rules and prompts will be released next week along with how to submit your work.
