C Notes 12/18/17

posted Dec 18, 2017, 1:04 PM by Jane Baker

Happy Holidays! ....Hard to believe that it is the last week of school in 2017 and we halfway through the school year. On behalf of the entire staff, we want to thank our Stargate Family for the generous gifts and treats that have been pouring in the past few days. You are so incredibly kind and our entire staff would like to express our sincere appreciation. I would also like to thank all of the families that have purchased items to support our annual giving tree. These items go directly to families at our sister school,  Leroy Drive Elementary as well as families in the Stargate community. There is still a need for gift cards to places like Target, King Soopers, etc. and they can be dropped off at the front office of each building.

This week we will wrap up our 9 days of Elementary Spirit with fun theme items each day and my personal favorite Ugly Sweater Day on Thursday! The entire school is encouraged to show off your fun and tacky sweaters this Thursday.

Just a reminder that the secondary students are on a final exam schedule with an 11:30am dismissal Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday this week. Please plan on picking up your 6th -11th grader by noon at the latest. The elementary students have a regular school schedule this week. There is NO school this Friday, December 22, as teachers wrap up the first semester in both buildings with grade reporting and ALP progress monitoring.

I hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday season and gets to truly enjoy their time off. I am very excited to spend time with my wife and kids over the next few weeks. I hope you take time to play hard, and love hard!

See you in 2018,

Josh

PSAT Results

Last week we received our PSAT/NMSQT results and are very excited to share this data with your community. This test was taken by all our 11th grade students earlier this fall. This test is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test, as well as the last official practice test the 11th grade students will take before the SAT this spring.  Stargate's Mean Total Score was 1207 compared to a state Mean Total Score of 1111. We also had 85% of our students meeting College and Career Readiness Benchmarks for both Evidence Based Reading and Writing and Math, compared to the state score of 63%.

We are very proud of our 11th grade students are are excited about the SAT this spring.

Stargate Annual Campaign

At Stargate Charter School, we’ve spent more than 20 years building a nurturing and thoughtful educational community for intellectually gifted learners and their families. It is a place where academic excellence is valued, and learning is celebrated as a lifelong process. We support the unique academic and social needs of each student, and encourage students to share their passions and values with openness and civility. Choosing Stargate as your family’s school of choice shows your investment in your student’s education. We ask you to consider investing in that education with a financial donation to Stargate during our year long Annual Campaign.

As a charter school, Stargate receives funding provided through Federal, State and local District funds based on enrollment levels on a per pupil basis. In Colorado, charter schools receive ~20% less funds per pupil than their traditional counterparts for school operations. To cover the difference, Stargate has three major fundraising efforts: (1) the Annual Campaign, (2) the Fall Fundraiser, and (3) the Spring Gala. All three fundraising efforts must be successful to meet the difference. Money from this important campaign supplements our funding gap by supporting the purchase of classroom supplies, instructional materials, technology updates, lunch tables, auditorium seating, and everything in between.

Please consider a tax deductible donation of $300 per family as an investment that will benefit our children for years to come. Our campaign runs through the entire 2017-2018 school year. You can make a one-time donation or set up monthly recurring donations using our online, secure donation site located here or drop off a check made out to "Stargate" at either front office.

Many companies match charitable donations; we encourage you to explore if your company provides this benefit. If you have questions about matching gifts, please contact the Stargate Chief Financial Officer, Lynne Allen, at 303-450-3936 or via email: lynne.allen@stargateschool.org.

Every student counts. Every gift counts. Every dollar donated to Stargate stays at Stargate!

Fundraising Allocation Committee

The FAC met on December 13th to review 15 application for funding.

We approved 9 applications for items such as:

  • Support of the HS After Prom

  • Cooking and cultural equipment

  • Hurdles for the HS track and field team

  • An anti-bullying presentation for K-5 students

  • Raised garden beds

  • Pottery wheels

The remaining applications were sent back to the building principals as their requests fell under the operational needs/budget. Without your continued help through fundraising, these requests would otherwise not be made possible! Our final round of applications is due on March 23, 2018. The FAC will meet again on April 10, 2018 to review and discuss all applications
