Middle and High School Fall Conferences

In an effort to minimize parent/guardian wait time to talk with teachers at conferences, we have extended the time available to meet with teachers during Parent/Teacher Conferences. We have also added suggested times (alpha split by last name) in an attempt to balance out the busy times.  Our conference format will be Open House, with all teachers available in the Secondary Commons. We are anticipating shortest wait time on Thursday, October 12, 10am-2:30pm. Please see below for schedule:

School Safety Drills

The safety and welfare of our students and staff is a priority at Stargate School. Although we talked to students about safety protocols at the beginning of the school year, we practice safety drills throughout the year to further reinforce to our staff and students what to do in an emergency. At some time during this week, we will practice campus wide Lockout and Lockdown drills. Members of the Thornton Police Department and Adams 12 Security Services Team will be on campus and assist with the drills.

Our school works closely with local authorities and uses emergency management best-practices to correctly develop and implement safety procedures. The goal of our drills throughout the school year is to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans, improve our response skills, and make students aware of what to do in an emergency.

Our school will go into a lockout if there is a threat outside the building. When in a lockout, we will bring everyone inside, lock and secure all exterior doors, pull exterior blinds or shades, and continue business as usual inside the building. Once the building is secure, we will not let anyone in the building.

Our school will go into a lockdown if there is a threat inside the building. Our protocol for a lockdown is locks, lights, out of sight. We turn classroom lights off, lock classroom doors, and move to an area of the room that can not be seen from interior doors or windows. If students are not in a classroom when we move into a lockdown, evacuation may be the best option depending on the students’ location and the nature of the threat. Staff will help evacuate students to a safe location away from the building and wait for further instruction.

In the event of a real emergency, we will send email communication to our community, providing updates and next steps, as timely as possible.

Please talk with your student, if you deem it appropriate, about the drills. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students are safe.
