Hello to all Stargate Families,

This week Missy Hischke, the elementary principal, and I felt strongly about sending a joint message to all of our families in grades K-12. We had many conversations over the course of last week and we kept coming back to the word perseverance and what that means to us as a community.

Perseverance

[pur-suh-veer-uhns]

  1. steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

In a society that seeks instant gratification, the importance of perseverance is often lost. We have fast food, immediate answers at our fingertips, and are constantly trying to make sure our lives and our children's’ lives run smoothly.

Are we allowing our students to persevere or do we create conditions that smooths the process for them?

Here are a few thoughts:

  • Students should be allowed to struggle and work through challenges for optimal growth.

  • There is always beauty in mistakes and students will benefit from learning from them. Grant your children the grace to make their own mistakes.

  • The easy and quick answer is not always the best answer.

  • Recognize and praise growth, effort, and perseverance. This allows the process to be more impactful and the final outcome to be more meaningful.

  • Perseverance is a skill that can and should be taught.

As we continue through the rest of the school year, please look for ways in which you can help your student persevere. There are numerous opportunities daily, weekly, and yearly. Growth comes from the struggle, the falling, the failing; and persevering through these challenges results in allowing us to discover what we are truly capable of accomplishing.

Rise above,

Rob

Fall Play-Romeo and Juliet Tickets On Sale NOW

Join us for our first production in the new Stargate Performing Arts Theatre, William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, running from November 8th - 10th (Two performances, 2pm & 7pm on the 10th). We will take you back to the 80's in style! It is 1988 in the Verona District of San Francisco, a young aspiring punk musician Romeo falls for the daughter of his family's greatest enemy, the upbeat and idealistic Juliet. Mercutio, fights in secret to win the heart and love of her best friend Romeo, while Tybalt maliciously plots her vengeance against all Montague scum, and the rich golden boy Steff Paris pursues the hand of Juliet and the Capulet empire. In a world filled with overbearing hate and manipulation, Romeo and Juliet must fight to keep their new and true love alive, yet ultimately their fates end in tragedy. A unique take on a classic tale with the majority of the Shakespeare language uncut and in tact.

Please come and enjoy this wonderful production, however, please keep in mind the Shakespeare language, the story, and that some of it's tragic/dramatic nature may be too mature for younger students. Tickets are available now ONLINE

5 Star Student Highs School Program

Stargate High School has started a new initiative, the 5 Star Students Program, to get students involved in the school and promote a positive learning environment. Through this program, students earn points for positive behaviors, attending school events, becoming members of teams or clubs, and school attendance.

Research shows us that students who are involved in their school have less discipline issues, improved attendance, improved grades, and a huge reduction in dropout rates. In fact, over 55% of students who are not involved in their school will dropout. If a student becomes involved in one thing at their school, that dropout rate reduces to 5%. Even better, if a student is involved in two or more things at their school, the dropout rate becomes virtually non-existent!

At various point levels students will have the opportunity to receive Stargate gear, gift cards, or other donated items from local businesses, individuals, and private entities. The hope is that we create a “Do Right” attitude as well as a push to become productive citizens not only in our school, but in our communities, throughout their lives.

Stargate would like to enlist your help to support this program in whatever way you see fit. We are always in need of Stargate gear (rally towels, t-shirts, hoodies, hats, cups, lanyards, etc…), gift cards, coupons, “big ticket” items (iPads, iPods, Nooks, Laptops, TV’s, game systems, bikes, etc…) for high point earners at the end of the school year, and monetary donations to buy items mentioned previously.

Donations can be dropped off in the Secondary office at any time throughout the school year. We can also provide a thank you letter for your donation for your tax purposes.

Thank you so much for your consideration and help!
