Hello to all Stargate Families,

As we enter November, I like to take time to reflect on all I am thankful for. It is wonderful to be a part of a community with outstanding staff, families and students. I hope that over the Thanksgiving holiday you also are able to take a moment to consider all you are thankful for.

Rise above,

Fall Play-Romeo and Juliet Tickets On Sale NOW

Join us for our first production in the new Stargate Performing Arts Theatre, William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, running from November 8th - 10th (Two performances, 2pm & 7pm on the 10th). We will take you back to the 80's in style! It is 1988 in the Verona District of San Francisco, a young aspiring punk musician Romeo falls for the daughter of his family's greatest enemy, the upbeat and idealistic Juliet. Mercutio, fights in secret to win the heart and love of her best friend Romeo, while Tybalt maliciously plots her vengeance against all Montague scum, and the rich golden boy Steff Paris pursues the hand of Juliet and the Capulet empire. In a world filled with overbearing hate and manipulation, Romeo and Juliet must fight to keep their new and true love alive, yet ultimately their fates end in tragedy. A unique take on a classic tale with the majority of the Shakespeare language uncut and in tact.

Please come and enjoy this wonderful production, however, please keep in mind the Shakespeare language, the story, and that some of it's tragic/dramatic nature may be too mature for younger students. Tickets are available now ONLINE

NHS Food Drive

The second NHS Food Drive is happening now and continuing until November 13th. Canned foods, non perishables and boxed foods are all acceptable things to bring in. We ask that Individual snacks packs such as granola bars or pudding packs are avoided, but we’ll accept anything else! The items can be dropped off at in the appropriate classrooms: Ms. Walsh’s room for 9th grade, Dr. Pegler’s room for 10th grade, Mrs. Pegler’s room for 11th grade and Mr. Mikow’s room for 12th grade.

This is a good opportunity for students to not only help people obtain food but also get Five Star points which they are given for each item brought in (tell the teacher when you drop off the items). If that’s not enough the person who brings in the most items get pizza lunch themselves and two friends with Officer Walker. The grade that gets the most amount of items per capita will also get prizes.

Secondary Finals Week December 17-21

In an effort to maximize student success and minimize student stress and anxiety, our finals schedule is spread-out over four days and, as indicated in our school calendar published last spring, December 18, December 19, and December 20 will be half days (8:15 am - 11:30 am). This schedule allows students to have no more than two finals each day, and extra time to prepare for finals/decompress in the afternoon on December 18 and December 19. Please make arrangements for your student to be picked up by noon on December 18, December 19 and December 20. Also remember that students do not have class on Friday, December 21.

HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America)

These students are founding members of Stargate's first official HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter.  The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.  On Wednesday, Oct 24, these students attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference at the Pepsi Center in Denver where they had the opportunity to learn valuable leadership and professional skills, hear from research doctors at Children’s Hospital, Colorado about how to get involved with HOSA’s national service project and participate in engaging workshops presented by the Colorado Avalanche’s athletic trainers.

The students would like to say a special thanks to the folks over at Good Samaritan for sponsoring the Stargate HOSA chapter by providing the students with their awesome Stargate HOSA polo shirts to wear to the conference and show their pride in our school and our community!  The students would also like to thank our friends over at St. Anthony's North who donate so generously at the Stargate Gala so that we can buy amazing training materials for our students to use and practice at Stargate, and our friends at North Suburban who allowed them to come and experience the da Vinci surgical robot.

Winterfest XIV is coming December 4th!

What is Winterfest?

Winterfest is a celebration of music performed by the students of Stargate. It will be held Tuesday December 4th at 6:30pm in the Performing Arts Auditorium.

Live auditions will be held on Tuesday November 13th after school until 5pm in the Music Room (148).  There will be a sign-up on the bulletin board outside the Music Room to sign up for your audition time.  It is recommend to do this for group auditions. You can also send a recorded audition, which must be visual, no later than Friday November 16th to   When you email your audition, please include all of the participants’ first and last names, grade in school, duration of the piece, title, composer, and instruments used.

What will the concert format be like this year?

All of the instrumental ensembles, Beginning Band and Orchestra, Middle School Band and Orchestra, Jazz Band, HS Instrumental Ensemble and HS Chamber Ensemble will be performing in the Performing Arts Auditorium.  This will only leave about 30 minutes for individual acts. Auditions will be more competitive this year because of our limited time.

What type of music can I audition on?

Students can audition on almost anything such as classical, rock, pop, jazz, holiday, seasonal, etc. Please stay away from anything overly suggestive-watch the lyrics, or depressing themes.  This is a family concert with fun and uplifting music.

Who can audition?

Any middle or high school Stargate student can audition on a vocal and/or instrumental music piece.  Adults, non-Stargate, or elementary Stargate students may be used as accompaniment.

What are the rules for auditioning?

Performances should be no longer than 3 minutes and this is enforced.  Please make any necessary edits before audition. Also, if you are a vocalist and you have a Karaoke background, please make sure that your version is 3 minutes or under.  Karaoke versions that have singing or words included will not be accepted. Space is limited on the stage, so no choreography.

How is a decision made?

It will be very difficult to make decisions this year since we have limited time.  The final criteria used to select pieces may be based upon: type of piece; instrumentation and variety; student grade level participation; length of piece; quality of performance; frequency of individual student participation in Winterfest and previous Winterfest performances. Students will be notified by no later than Wednesday November 28th if not sooner.
