On March 1, Stargate was awarded the John J. Irwin school of Excellence Award.  The award was given to five (5) schools in our district that demonstrated excellent academic achievement. The achievement is based upon the three-year school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, we are identified as  “exceeding” expectations on the academic achievement indicator. - Way to go Stargate!

PARCC/CMAS Testing Dates

It’s almost time for testing season. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and the Colorado Measure of Academic Success (CMAS) will start on March 14.

The testing schedule for PARCC for all 6th through 9th grade students can be found here

Every year we complete an infrastructure trial with the students to make sure they are knowledgeable on how to use the online tools that the assessments provide. This will take place this week in middle school advisory classes and high school Adroit classes. This practice test will last 20 - 30 minutes.

A few parents have expressed a desire to review the test with their student at home and here is a link that will be helpful with practice problems: https://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/

At Stargate, we like to have a healthy approach to standardized assessments and we strive to keep stress at a minimum. While these tests are an important measure of students growth from year to year, we recognise that there is so much more to our students than the results of a standardized assessment. Thank you for your support in encouraging your student to try their best. More information will be coming out next week regarding how to help you student be successful in preparing for these tests.

The Stargate Science Olympiad teams competed at Regionals in Ft. Collins on Saturday.  Stargate Team #1 placed 9th overall and is advancing to the State Competition which will be held at the Colorado School of Mines on Saturday April 15.  Stargate Team #2 placed 19th overall and we are waiting on a final verdict about whether or not they will advance to State.

Allie Lewis (6th grade), Kira Donahue (7th grade), and Katelyn Smith (7th grade) competed in the Sunbelt Soccer Tournament in Pueblo this last weekend. Girls played  phenomenally and fought fierce, sweeping all four games, 3-0, 2-1, 2-1, and 4-0 to bring home the Championship. Additionally, Allie Lewis received the Sunbelt 2017 Sportsmanship Award for great sportsmanship and outstanding performance. Great job girls!

Congrats to Stargate's 6th Grade team that attended the Brain Bowl state championships this past weekend!

This team:

  • Placed 4th out of 27 6th grade teams in the morning rounds at the Regionals last month.

  • Was one of 18 qualifying teams. There were 67 6th grade teams in all.

  • Had a brutal slate of teams in the State Championships (3rd toughest strength of schedule) and managed to finish 11th in state, despite being short handed.

Computer Check Out Release Form

As a Bring Your Own Device School, it is imperative that students bring their computer to school every day fully charged and ready to go.  School computers are available but only for emergencies. We have had more and more students checking out school computers because they have forgot to charge their computer, left them at home or did not feel like bringing them. Beginning March 1, 2017, students will need a Parent signed Computer Check out Release Form if they need to temporarily borrow a school computer. (Computers are checked out at the beginning of each academic period and checked back in during off hours, lunches and at the end of the day) These forms are available on the website (link here) or at the front desk.
