Stargate families,

I am excited for our Gala coming up this Saturday. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our Fundraising Committee members who have put countless hours into the planning and preparation for this wonderful event. I also want to thank our staff members who have given time and energy to creating silent auction baskets and donating teacher adventures. For those of you planning to attend, I look forward to seeing you there.

Rise above,

The 2nd Annual Stargate Flower Fundraiser March 4th - April 12th

The High School students will be selling Mazzotti Farms Patio Pots and Hanging Baskets again this year, to raise money for the parent sponsored After-Prom. After-Prom provides a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment where kids can celebrate their Prom night from 11:00pm - 2:00am. A portion of the profits will also go towards general school-wide needs.

They will make great gifts for Mother's Day, teacher appreciation, or to spruce up your yard for springtime! Don’t miss out this year.

Look for your order form in Monday folders (K-5) or your mailbox (Secondary) starting the week of March 4th. Online ordering available.

White Shirts and Pants Needed For Mr O’s Production

For next year’s production of the 5th grade musical, Hypatia and the I’mpossible Equation, 30 students will need to be dressed completely in white.  If you can spare any long-sleeved white shirts or white pants (you think would fit a 5th grader), please donate them to the box in the hall outside the Elementary main office.

MATHCOUNTS

Ten members of Stargate’s Middle School MATHCOUNTS team competed in the North Metro Chapter competition on Saturday, February 23rd, at Rocky Top Middle School.  A total of 108 students from 18 schools participated.

The mathletes from Stargate continued their impressive performance this year.  The team of Tamsin Horne, Jeremy Huang, Allison Xin, and Valerie Xin took 1st place in the team competition.  Five Stargate students placed in the top ten in the individual competition: Jeremy placed 1st, Pranav Konijeti placed 4th, Valerie placed 7th, David Thumma placed 8th, and Ryan Marx placed 10th.

All ten members of Stargate’s team qualified for the State competition, the most of any school in our chapter.  In addition to the students named above, also qualifying were Nick Hofer, Sibi Sivaram, and Vincent Stone.

The State competition will be held March 23rd at the University of Denver.

Brain Bowl

Congratulations to Stargate's 42 middle school students that participated in the 2019 Optimist Brain Bowl Regional and State tournaments. A total of 189 teams from across Colorado and Wyoming participated this year. Stargate's teams did exceptionally well in a very tough region and qualified three teams to advance to the State tournament. Special congratulations to the following students for their performance at the State tournament, where the competition was fierce!

  • Andrew Sawyer, Cayden Risley, Larry Shan, and Kole Picon-Barrett for finishing 8th in State in the 8th Grade level

  • Greyson Ono, Mason Moritzky, Connor Collier, Garrett Fleischmann, and Blake Bui for finishing 3rd in State in the 8th Grade level

  • Ava Lee, Lia Morley, Carter Jensen, Owen Oyer, and John Darrah for winning it all, taking 1st place in the 6th Grade level!

Colorado State Scholastic Chess Championship Tournament

Stargate's team was lead by Akshat Jain and consisted of Akshat, Matthew Korody, Jacob Tow, and Jeremy Dussault.

Akshat took first place for the individual ranking and the Stargate team took 2nd place for the team ranking! 29 schools from Colorado entered. Fairview took 1st place, being the only team to beat Stargate, but no one beat Akshat - he went undefeated!

This is the first year that Stargate has entered a team into the Colorado State Chess Championship, and kudos go to Akshat and his team (whom he trained)! For those who don't know, Akshat is a National Chess Master (outranked only by International Masters and then Grand Masters). All four members of our Stargate team are members of the United States Chess Federation.
