Adroit Updates

Wonderful Stargate Parents,
Thank you so much for the items that you have donated during the first semester! We have made great use of all of the wonderfully weird and quirky things that have come into the Adroit Space. The students are learning so much from the investigations they are able to experience because of these donations. With one semester of Adroit under our belt and being able to spend time working with many of the Stargate students, I have developed a greater understanding of what our students are interested in and what materials we are searching for from our Stargate community. One of the great things about Stargate is that our community is so widely diverse. Adroit allows our students to celebrate those differences through passion projects as well as in-class opportunities to influence others via student-lead mini lessons and projects. Due to the wide variety of interests within our student population, we are also trying to keep the class relevant by providing opportunities into many fields of study.

Looking ahead into what projects our students will be working on, here are some of the items that are needed to make this semester incredible. I would rather use the community as a resource before spending unnecessary money on these items.
Assorted building materials:
-lumber (2 x ?’s, sheets, hardwood, pallets that are in decent shape, etc.)
-metal (rebar, angle iron, etc.)
-hardware (nails, screws, nuts, bolts, etc.)
Sewing Supplies
-material
-thread
-needles for sewing machines

Tools (hand or power)  ...this an excuse for you to get new ones
-welding
-woodworking
     -electronics
Craft Supplies
-spray paint
- hot glue sticks (large and small)
Thank you for making Adroit better and better everyday!  I can’t wait to see what our community can come up with! If you are ever curious about what else can be donated, please send me an email and I will gladly answer any of your questions.
Life is Adroit.
Adroit is Life.

Heart & Sole (a Girls on the Run Program for 6-8th grade girls)

Coming this spring to Stargate Middle School!

Calling all 6th-8th grade girls - Come be a part of the fun! Join us at Heart & Sole!

So… What is Girls on the Run Heart & Sole?

Stretch yourself – physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. Girls will be inspired to a lifetime of self-respect and a healthy lifestyle through an innovative program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk race with fun, self empowerment lessons. This program promotes individual achievement and self–confidence. Girls gain self-esteem and learn healthy lifestyle habits while training for a 5K run/walk race.

What if I don’t like to run?

We use the term “running” loosely – girls can run, hop, skip, speed walk or dance towards their goals. The lessons promote self-challenge instead of competition; self-worth instead of societal worth; and cooperation instead of rivalry.

Our goals for each girl are to:

Understand her place in the community.

Have strong sense of identity.

Learn how to give and receive support in a group.

Learn to stand up for herself in a healthy manner.

Have an improved body image.

Complete a 5K run/walk event in the community.

Online registration will start February 5.

Practices are twice a week for 90 minutes. Practice begins the week of March 5th and runs through week of May 14th. Go to www.girlsontherunrockies.org to learn more about this program.

Prom and After Prom for Juniors

Stargate's first Prom will be this year for the juniors on April 21st.  Following the prom, we will be holding an After-Prom party to provide a drug and alcohol free alternative to unsupervised home and hotel parties.  We hope to provide a fun, memorable experience for the kids with lots of activities, food and gifts.  The After-Prom is traditionally planned and executed by the parents at the school.  A dedicated committee of parents has been working hard to plan this event.  But now we need some help from everyone else.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Decorating Committee will be holding a "Build Day" from 1-3:30pm at the school to start constructing some of the decorations for After-Prom.  This will be lots of cutting, painting, folding, etc... If you can help on that day, please sign up here:
