High school Students in All State!
Congratulations to sophomore, Jacob Lei, in being accepted into the Colorado All State Orchestra on violin.  He performed at CSU on February 9th with our state's finest string musicians. Also, a congratulations to sophomore, Anna Grondalski, flute. She was recently accepted as an alternate in the All State Band.

Model UN made their first showing at the Colorado Springs conference this past Saturday.  We surprisingly won Outstanding Delegate, Yejin Won and Camille Ellis and Best Delegate, Noah Jung, in the Beginner division.  The kids did a tremendous amount of work over break and right before the conference. Please congratulate them!

Adams 12 District Spelling Bee

Cheyenne Trujillo, 8th grade, won the district spelling bee last week.  Victor Kolosov, 8th grade, placed 2nd. 4 of top 7 spellers were Stargate students including Erin Stander, 7th grade and Brody Krause, 5th grade! C-o-n-g-r-a-t-u-l-a-t-i-o-n-s!

Knowledge Bowl

Congratulations to our Knowledge Bowl team. They placed 2nd in Regionals and will defend their 3A State Champions title at the state tournament in mid March.

HOSA State Competition

This was Stargate's first year to have a HOSA (Future Health Professionals) chapter.  A few months ago, our students competed online in Round 1 of their health occupation events.  Select students who qualified for advancement were then invited to attend the State Leadership Conference and Competition on Feb 14-16 in Denver.  At the State conference, the students competed in Round 2 of their health science events and attended seminars lead by health professionals.  Portia Bhattacharjee, Faith Gardner, Jacey Carlson, Kopal Chaurasia, Anna Grondalski, Samridhi Shrestha, Megha Kumar, Yolanda Ofori, Upasana Shrestha, Andrew Sieber, Fawad Ahmadzai, and Hirali Trivedi attended the HOSA Future Medical Professionals State conference, joined by over a thousand other HOSA students from around the state.  All 12 Stargate students who attended were recognized as State Finalists (top 10 in their events)! Six of these students placed top 3 in their events at State, and have qualified to advance to Nationals.  Kopal Chaurasia also received the Barbara James Service Award for over 100 hours of health related community service.  Portia Bhattacharjee won the Pacesetter Award because she is the reason we have a chapter of Future Medical Professionals here at Stargate!  Portia also accepted the Pediatric Cancer Service Project award on behalf of our chapter - thanks to all of you who purchased First Aid Kids to help us raise money for Pediatric Cancer Research and student conference fees!  Thanks also to Mrs. Bradford for being an awesome chaperone, and thanks to Romy Bhattacharjee for volunteering to help at the conference.

Here are the results for our students who qualified for Nationals, but again please be sure to congratulate ALL 12 of our competitors who were recognized as finalists (top 10) in their events at State!

Yolanda Ofori - 1st place in Nutrition

Kopal Chaurasia  and Hirali Trivedi - 1st place in Existing Medical Innovation

Sami Shrestha and Anna Grondalski - 2nd place in Health Career Display

Megha Kumar - 3rd place in Epidemiology
