Hello Stargate families and welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. This is a very exciting school year because this is our first year as a full 6th grade - 12th grade Secondary school as we welcome our first graduating class of 2019! It is my hope for this year that we can all work together to provide the best school experience for every student as we look to challenge each student’s academic abilities, support their unique emotional needs, promote individual character development and encourage a life-long love of learning.

Rise above,

Rob

Secondary Back to School Night

Secondary back to School night is Tuesday, August 14 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. This is a time for you to see the building and meet your student's teachers in a open house style format. Please bring a copy of your student’s class schedule. You can learn about our lunch programs and meet members of our Board of Directors. If your student has medication in the Health Office, you may also bring the medication and forms.

Flight School

All students will start the year with Flight School. Flight School will take place the first few days students report to school. The purpose of Flight School is to build school culture, build and grow peer and staff relationships, become familiar with the building, discuss and create common expectations, and introduce school safety procedures.

On Wednesday, 6th and 9th grade students will not need to bring anything to school. On Thursday and Friday, students should bring their computer and will need a lunch. The outline for Flight School can be found below:

  • August 15 - 8:15 am - 11:00 am - 6th grade only - Team building activities, school tour, school pictures for student IDs and yearbook

  • August 15 - 12:00 - 2:05 pm - 9th grade only - Team building activities, school pictures

  • August 16 - full day (8:15 am - 3:15 pm) - all grades- Team building activities, rules and expectations discussions, technology expectations,

  • August 17 - full day (8:15 am - 3:15 pm) - In the morning students will attend two assemblies, one discussing school safety and the other discussing recognizing and reporting sexual harassment.  After the assemblies, students will go through their daily schedule and will spend time in each class engaging in class team building activities and developing class expectations. Students will also get a supply list from each teacher. Throughout the day, students will take their school picture for student IDs and yearbooks (grades 7, 8, 10, 11, 12).

School Pictures and Student IDs

6th and 9th grade pictures will be taken on Wednesday, August 15. Pictures for 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades will be taken on Friday, August 17. Students will get their IDs at this time. Click on this link for School Picture Online Order Information

Picture order forms are also available at the Secondary Front desk.

Student Technology (Bring Your Own Device)

Every student in the secondary building (grades 6-12) needs to bring their own computer to school every day. If you are still looking to purchase a computer for your student, please access the BYOD Guidelines to see minimum needed requirements. You can review the Acceptable Use Policy policy here.

Student Class Schedules

Secondary Class Schedules are available now on Infinite Campus. Please print and bring the schedule to Back To School night on August 14. Students will also need their printed schedule the first day of school. Students can obtain a schedule change request form in the front office to initiate any schedule change requests.

Lockers for Middle and High School Students

There is a $10 optional locker fee available on payforit.net.  Middle and High School students who have paid the fee by Friday, August 10 will be issued their locker during the first week of school. The next round of lockers will be distributed the first week of September for those who have paid by September 1st.

Student Parking

Student parking permits are required in our North lot. The Parking Permit fee is an optional fee in payforit.net. Once the fee is paid, students will need to bring their driver’s license and insurance card to the front desk to obtain a permit. If student have not already attended a Parking Lot Safety Talk with our SRO, they will also need to do that before a permit will be issued. The first Parking Lot Safety Meeting is scheduled for late August during lunch with our new SRO, Office Walker. In order to give students time to obtain their parking permit, we will not begin checking for permits until September 5th.

Middle School Overnight Field Trips

All middle school grades have an overnight field trip scheduled during the week of September 10th. Our 6th grade will go to Keystone Science School, split in two groups, one group going Sept. 10 - Sept. 12 and the other group Sept. 12 - Sept. 14. Our 7th grade will go to Cheley Camp Sept. 10 - Sept. 12. Our 8th grade will go to Cheley Camp Sept. 12 - Sept. 14. More information and permissions forms about each trip will come out within the next week.

Secondary Curriculum Night

Tuesday, August 28th is our Secondary Curriculum Night. From 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm parents/guardians will go to each of your student’s classes for eight minutes each to hear from each teacher. There will be a Middle School Parent/Guardian Orientation meeting from 5:30 - 6:00 pm and a High School Parent/Guardian Orientation meeting from 7:30 - 8:00 pm. The orientation meetings will be in the Secondary Commons. Please remember to bring your student’s schedule with you.

Middle School iReady Assessments

All middle school students will take a reading and math iReady assessment in their Connect class sometime between August 22nd and September 14th. These iReady assessments are normed assessments that will provide us with information regarding the effectiveness of our curriculum and instruction and provide families a snapshot of how their student is doing among their grade level peers. Students will take iReady assessments again in the spring so we can measure growth over the course of the year.
