Flight School

All students will start the year with Flight School. Flight School will take place the first three days students report. On Wednesday, 6th and 9th grade students will not need to bring anything to school. On Thursday, the only thing students need is a lunch (either hot or cold). On Friday, students should bring their computer and will need a lunch. The purpose of Flight School is to build school culture, build and grow peer and staff relationships, become familiar with the new building, discuss and create common expectations, and introduce school safety procedures. The outline for Flight School can be found below:

  • August 16- 8:15 am - 11:00 am - 6th grade only - Team building activities, school tour, pictures/ID

  • August 16-1:00-3:35 pm-9th grade only-Team building activities, school tour, pictures/ID

  • August 17 - full day (8:15 am - 3:15 pm) - all grades- Team building activities, rules and expectations discussion, technology expectations, introduce school safety procedures, pictures/ID for all other Secondary grades

  • August 18 - full day (8:15 am - 3:15 pm) - Student will go through their daily schedule and will spend time in each class engaging in class team building activities and developing class expectations. Students will also get a supply list from each teacher.

Student Technology (Bring Your Own Device)

Every student in the secondary building (grades 6-12) needs to bring their own computer to school every day. If you are still looking to purchase a computer for your student, please access the BYOD Guidelines to see minimum needed requirements. Students and parents/guardians will also be asked to sign an Acceptable Use Policy the first week of school. You can preview the policy here.

Class Schedules

Secondary Class Schedules are available now on Infinite Campus. Please print and bring the schedule to Meet the Teacher night on August 15. Students will also need their printed schedule the first day of school. Students will need to meet with their counselor with schedule questions or change requests.

Meet the Teacher Night

Meet the Teacher Night is Tuesday, August 15 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. This is a time for you to see the building and meet your student's teachers in a open house style format and learn about volunteer opportunities at Stargate. There will be a meeting for New Parents in the Fieldhouse 5:30-6:00pm.  We will be selling some Stargate t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.. in the Secondary Commons (cash or check please)as well as information about lunches. Also, the Kona Ice truck will be there if you need a snow cone treat.  Bring cash as the snow cones are $3, $4, or $5, depending on size."

Solar Eclipse-August 21

As you may be aware, on August 21, 2017, from 10:23 a.m. - 1:14 p.m., a near total solar eclipse will be visible from our school in Thornton. This event is being called The Great American Eclipse because it is the first time since 1918 that a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the entire continental United States.

Safety is our top priority. To ensure our students experience the eclipse in the safest way possible, Stargate has purchased enough eclipse glasses for each student and staff member to safely experience the 93% partial eclipse. These glasses meet the safety standards set by the American Astronomical Society (AAS). Our teachers and staff at all levels are busy planning as we will make this once in a lifetime experience a day to remember for our students. Please remind your child (as will we) that it is not safe to look at the sun without proper eye protection.

If you do not wish for your child to participate in our planned eclipse activities, please email info@stargateschool.org.  Students whose parents do not wish for them to participate will be able to watch the live NASA broadcast of the eclipse in a classroom and complete an instructional learning activity.

If you are one of the many families that will be viewing the eclipse in a different state as it travels throughout the US, please notify us by calling the attendance line at 303-450-3936 (option 1) or emailing us at attendance@stargateschool.org.

If you ordered hot lunch from My Kids Lunch for this day, it will be served as a sack lunch to allow for more flexibility to celebrate and observe the solar eclipse. If you need to change your order, please contact My Kids Lunch 303-778-0916 by Thursday, August 17.

Middle School MAPS Assessments

All middle school students will take a reading and math NWEA MAPS assessment in their Connect (formerly Advisory) course sometime between August 22nd and September 8th. These MAP assessments are normed assessments that will provide us with information regarding the effectiveness of our curriculum and instruction and provide families a snapshot of how their student is doing among their grade level peers. Students will take reading and math MAPS assessments again in the spring so we can measure growth over the course of the year.

Curriculum Night

Tuesday, August 29th is curriculum night. From 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm you will go to each of your student’s classes for eight minutes each to hear from each teacher. I will have a Middle School Parent/Guardian orientation from 5:30 - 6:00 pm and a high school parent/guardian orientation from 7:30 - 8:00 pm.
