C-Notes September 26, 2016

posted Sep 26, 2016, 6:30 PM by Jane Baker

Happy Monday,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the lovely Colorado weather! My weekend was highlighted by having my toenails painted by my three year old daughter and a Broncos and Husker win!

Fall Lockdown Drill - Tuesday (9/27/16) we will partner with Thornton Police Department to complete our fall lockdown drill. This is an Adams 12 requirement that will take place twice per year. The fall drill is prearranged and the spring drill is unannounced. During this drill teachers will turn the lights off in the classroom, close their already locked classroom door and move all students to a corner of the room. Students will then sit quietly until a police officer unlocks the classroom door and tells them what a great job they did! We completed a practice drill today and identified a few areas that we can improve upon before Tuesday’s drill with Thornton PD. Please ask your student about Lock, Lights, Out of Sight.

Practice Wind Sock Day - Next week on Tuesday October 4, 2016 we will have a practice wind sock day! A windsock day is an Inside Day when the wind chill/temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit or heavy precipitation is present.Students will be directed to enter the school through the main entrances and proceed directly to the commons. Colorful windsocks will be displayed at different locations around the school to indicate that conditions exist for an windsock day.  Please do not park on Tuesday the 4th just stay in the loop and drop your child off at the front of their building.

Thank you to our Community Relations Committee and our entire community for an amazingly successful Harry Potter Night. This was an inaugural event for our school but I am sure it is one that will become a tradition! Thank you to all the volunteers who make our school the wonderful place it is!

Have a fantastic week and I hope to see you all soon.

Fundraising Committee Updates

Stargate Fall Fundraiser

Our fall fundraiser is in full swing for both K-5 and MS/HS. Our community is selling magazines, digital Entertainment Books, dry cookie dough and Love Bags. What’s a Love Bag, you ask? Love Bags are reusable bags with style. There are over 90 bags to choose from so you are certain to find something for everyone. Our fundraiser will run from September 14th through October 3rd.  At the end of the fundraiser prizes will be given based on quantity of items sold, including “Principal for a Day” for the top seller, a chance to attend our mobile video game party for everyone who sells at least 2 items, our Limo To Lunch experience and other exciting prizes!

Sales for magazines and Love bags can be made online - or with the paper order form that will be going home with your child. The online websites are: www.APMags.com or www.love-fundraising.com and the school ID is: HelpStargate. Order forms for Cookie Dough were included in the packet that went home with your child. One of the keys to a successful Magazine fundraiser is to invite people to renew current magazine subscriptions through Stargate. We appreciate your support of this critical fundraiser -- we could not do it without you! Questions? Email fundraising at fundraising@stargateschool.org or check out the online information here, including our FAQ.

Box Tops and Longmont Dairy Milk Caps

Announcing our first Box Tops and Longmont Dairy Milk Cap class competition for the year for K-5!! The contest will run from September 19th  thru October 4th . Gather all of the Box Tops and Longmont Dairy milk caps that you've been collecting all summer, put them in a bag (include the name of your child’s homeroom teacher) and drop them in the main collection box near the K-5 front desk or deliver to your child’s homeroom teacher. Each of these items earns our school $$. The winning class for each category (Box Tops and Longmont Dairy Milk Caps) will earn a party of their choice: Ice Cream Sundaes or Root Beer Floats. Careful cutting and examination of expiration dates is appreciated as are clean milk caps! You can find flyers and more information here.

Dining “In” Night

We’ll be hosting a Dine “In” Night with Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ on Thursday, September 29th.  With this fundraiser you can pre-order a Jim 'N Nick's Family Meal (feeds 3-4) to be picked up on Thursday, September 29th at Stargate.  We’ll be sending home and posting pre-order forms online here; simply make your selections, include a check (written out to Stargate) or cash, and return to the front office or to your child’s teacher.  Your meal will be waiting for you at pick-up time and Stargate will earn $$ for each meal ordered.

King Soopers Reloadable Gift Card program

Reloadable King Soopers and Safeway gift cards are available for purchase. The King Soopers cards are pre-loaded with $5.00. Every time you reload the card King Soopers or Safeway will donate 5% of the re-loaded amount to Stargate (at no cost to you). You can even reload directly at the register before you purchase your items. Use the cards to do your grocery shopping or purchase gas to support your school while you shop. You can get all the details here. Last April we made $1470 for the reloadable King Soopers cards and in August we made $800. This is one of the easiest ways to help Stargate earn $$!!!

Annual Fundraising Gala - mark your calendar!

Our annual fundraising Gala will be held on February 11th, 2017 at The Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, CO. If you are interested in helping plan this event please contact fundraising@stargateschool.org. Our preparations are in full swing and we can always use the extra help!

Sign up to support Stargate by using AmazonSmile (go to: smile.amazon.com and Sign up ). AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support Stargate every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization(0.5% of all qualifying purchases will go back to our school).
