C-Notes October 10, 2016

Happy Fall Ya’ll! We officially have hit that time of the year where the unpredictable Colorado weather will have us preparing for a variety of outcomes. I appreciate our entire community’s patience and flexibility last week while we had a practice windsock day on Tuesday (aka disaster) and an actual windsock day on Thursday (aka amazing). It goes to show that we are all quick learners and usually do not make the same mistakes twice!

Just a reminder that if the weather is below 20 degrees F and/or too wet for our elementary kids to wait outside, we will hang two Bronco windsocks at the south entrance and one Bronco windsock at the north entrance. Nothing changes as far as the loop or parking is concerned, we just want the kids to enter the building as quickly as possible.

One recent change you may have noticed is that we are now crossing pedestrians from the parking lot over to the elementary at the corner closest to the K-5 front office. The goal is to have drivers in the Loop (Hug and Go) use the entire length of the loop. Please pull all the way forward and use the Hug and Go lane that spans between both buildings.

All of our 5th - 8th grade students made it back safely from our overnight trips and from the kids and teachers’ comments, it sounds like it was an amazing experience for everyone! Thank you to our teachers and chaperones who continue to make this special experience such a tremendous success and integral part of the Stargate Way!

Our K-5 Students have been diving into their passions during our new school-wide class on Wednesdays called Stargate Way time. This time is set for a school-wide focus on students social emotional needs. Over the past month our elementary students have spent time focusing on empathy, ending discrimination, developing an APP that will make life easier for others in our school and finding their passions. We are also very excited for the upcoming peer mentoring partnership which will start as our high school students will begin meeting with small groups of elementary students during their coinciding Adroit period one Wednesday per month. K-5 teachers will facilitate these new small groups and we anticipate positive relationships, leadership and mentoring opportunities for both the elementary and high school students.

Our next Coffee with C is Tuesday October 18th at 8:20AM. We will meet in the Elementary Commons and sit in our new Auditorium seats. Members of our Governing Board will be in attendance as well to discuss our Stakeholder Update,  Strategic Plan and Goals for the year. I will also give an update on our School Performance Framework that is being released by Colorado Department of Education.

On August 24, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education approved the placement of a $350 million bond on the November ballot at no tax rate increase to residents. The 2016 Bond proposal (Ballot Issue 3D) provides funding to Adams 12 Five Star Schools and will impact every student, school and community.  A bond is a voter-approved funding source that is used for capital improvements such as building repairs or new schools and cannot be used for salary or operational needs. The funding that Stargate received for our expansion was from private bonds that we must pay back out of our operating dollars over the next 30 years. If the Bond passes Stargate will receive over $5.1 million dollars that we could use toward additional improvements and upgrades to our new campus.

Just a reminder that Wednesday and Thursday this week are conferences. K-5 conferences will be scheduled all day long while 6-10 grade will be open house evening only. This is a great opportunity to check in on the progress and growth your child is making in each of his/her classes. While we would like to designate as much time as possible to each family, please be cognizant that each of our teachers has between 100 -150 students. Thanks in advance for your consideration and support of our staff. We look forward to seeing everyone at conferences!
