 About Me
I am excited to return to Stargate this year teaching both High School and Middle School Art. This is my second year at Stargate and my first year teaching High School art courses. I am very much looking forward to expanding and further exploring my teaching practice both with my Middles School classes and a handful of new art courses offered at the High School level.

I have spent most of my life making and studying art and I love to share the rewards of making and close observation with my students.  After receiving my Bachelor's of Fine arts in Painting and Sculpture at Metropolitan State University of Denver, I worked as a substitute in many Denver area schools.  Regardless of what class I was subbing for, I always made my way to the art room to chat with the students and get a peek at their work.  Those brief visits left a strong impression and made it clear that I should go back to school to get my teaching credentials.  After finishing the Teacher Licensure program I had the good fortune of finding Stargate by way of their need for a long term sub. I was asked to join the team and shortly after hired on permanently as the second art teacher.  I feel extremely lucky to have been welcomed by such an incredible dedicated community of students, staff, and families.

For me, experiencing life (and art) is perhaps just as important as the making of the art.  The phrase, "art is in the seeing" is barely visible in white letters taped to the white art room wall. That phrase, camouflaged and almost invisible, best sums up why I love teaching. Often when we experience something rewarding, we enjoy sharing those experiences with others.  In part, my joy as a teacher comes from the opportunity to assist my students in the discovery of the rewards of looking closer (seeing).
I am very fortunate to have a small family with whom I get to share my life's experiences. My partner(Virginia), our nine year old son(Oliver), and the two family dogs(Urpi, and Chico Marcel) enjoy making frequent trips to the mountains for long hikes, delicious picnics, skiing, snowboarding, painting, and the occasional dip in the exhilarating and bone chillingly cold Rocky Mountain river waters. When not in class or adventuring with my family and friends, I enjoy spending long hours in my home studio designing and building furniture, reading, and painting.
