Ms. Krill

About Me - This is my sixteenth year teaching and my twentieth year in Education. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in English and Education with a minor in Humanities. My first teaching career was in inner-city Phoenix. While it was challenging work, my heart was in Colorado. I moved to the Western Slope and taught at Mt. Garfield Middle School in Palisade (where the peaches are perfect!)  I left Palisade to pursue a career in business that took me to wonderful places like Huntington Beach, California, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Bozeman, Montana. But the mountains of Colorado kept calling to me. When I returned to Colorado, I worked in the Tech Industry for HP and USWest as a project manager, with international business training and marketing. I returned to education because I found Stargate. I wanted the opportunity to work with gifted children in a meaningful way and to share my love of learning, literature, writing, history and the humanities.  This year I am working in both High School and Middle School, teaching Human Geography, US History, Creative Writing and I am very excited to be adding AP Government and Politics to our curriculum.

I also work with the Flight Crew - a great group of Juniors and Seniors who are working to help kids transition at sixth and ninth grades. I am licensed in Secondary English, Social Studies, and Gifted Education. I am the sponsor for High School Student Council - a group of kids from all grades who are leading the way as Stargate develops a culture of kind, compassionate, active young people. I am an avid photographer and am always looking for the opportunity to capture that "Stargate Moment". When I am not at school, I love to play with my little Springer Spaniel, Lulu and my bumbling Golden Retriever, Dixie.

What I Love about Teaching - There are many things I love about teaching but the moments that make me dance are the moments when a kid gets the big idea, when they see something they've never seen before, when they have a brilliant insight, when they take a risk and feel the reward. I love the moments when children are genuinely laughing, when they are solving great big problems and when they are just being themselves. I enjoy seeing kids become more confident in who they are and what they stand for.
