About Me

Welcome to Kindergarten at Stargate! I look forward to teaching your child this year. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am from Orlando, Florida, where I attended the University of Central Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I am currently working on my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Early Childhood Education. I cannot wait to graduate this April!

This will be my 15th year teaching Kindergarten.  My family and I moved to Broomfield in June 2012 and we have thoroughly enjoyed Colorado. I have three daughters, one dog, one cat, and a very patient husband. My oldest daughter is a junior at CU (Go Buffs), my middle is entering her junior year at Broomfield High, and my youngest daughter is in seventh grade at Broomfield Heights Middle. Right behind my # 1 passion, teaching kindergarten, I also LOVE running, hiking, and spending time with my family. Of course… I am a Bronco’s fan and my favorite season is Fall. I am eager to begin my third year at Stargate!

What I Love about Teaching

I’ve known since third grade that I would be a teacher. Teaching has been a life-long passion of mine and Kindergarten is where I’m meant to be. In Kindergarten everything is new and exciting! It is a place of discover and wonder.  Children are constantly learning and growing both socially and academically. I love to witness their growth from August through May –They never fail to amaze me. Not to mention, Kindergarteners are funny and they think I’m funny too! Life is good in Kindergarten! I hope to make a positive impact on each student, and instill a LOVE of LEARNING that lasts a lifetime. I truly feel I have the best job on Earth and that’s why I LOVE TEACHING!

I keep all grades on Infinite Campus which you can access from the menu.  All other information is on my project pages or my blogs.

My name is Gunhild Mansell, although I go by Gunner, and the children know me as Mrs. Mansell. This is my third year in Kindergarten working alongside Mrs. Wells. I am originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, I received my BA degree in Elementary Education with Kindergarten and Remedial Reading Certification from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. I have taught Title I, 3rd and 4th grades in both MN and CO; taught Special Education with a focus on literacy and math to 2nd – 5th graders in England; taught Special Education for 1st – 5th graders in Switzerland at an International School; and was a SPED Para-professional at Aspen Ridge Preparatory School.

            On a personal note, I am married to an Englishman and have two daughters that were born in England. We lived in England for 16.5 years before moving to Basel, Switzerland with my husband’s job. We spent 6 years living in Switzerland and then moved to Colorado in 2011. Our oldest daughter arrived in Colorado last August after studying in London for the past 8 years. Our youngest is a Junior at CU Boulder. We are a family of travelers, skiers and sports enthusiasts.  Personally, I love spending time in the mountains, reading and following my childhood and adopted sports’ teams. It is my hope to inspire a love of learning as your child begins his/her education journey!!
