Spanish 1: May 21st-25th

Hola padres! It's hard to believe this is the last week of the year. My time with my first graders has flown by and I will miss them SO much next year. I am comforted by the fact that they will be in such capable hands with our new Spanish teacher and I can't wait to come back and visit! This week in first grade Spanish we will be finishing up with travel/shopping vocabulary and celebrating a successful trimester with our end of class fiesta! The list for this week is as follows:
  • trae (try-ay): he/she carries
  • se quita (say kee-tah): he/she takes off
  • los pantalones (pan-tah-loe-nays): pants
  • cuesta (kway-stah): it costs
  • los zapatos (zah-pah-tose): shoes
  • la chaqueta (cha-keh-tah): jacket
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to match clothing words with pictures in Spanish on a review packet.
2) Students will celebrate a successful trimester in Spanish with an end of the year fiesta!

On Monday, I will present the travel/shopping words, we will do some storytelling and students will complete a review packet.

On Wednesday, we will have our end of the trimester fiesta!

On Friday, we do not have school due to a Professional Development Day. Have a great summer!!! :)

HomeworkSpanish folders will be coming home for the last time on Wednesday with all of student's graded Unit 8 work and an optional review of Unit 8 (no need to return). If your child's folder is still in good shape, please consider keeping it for next year! :)

Other Important Info: For the fiesta, we will finish our movie, I will bring in some treats to share with the class and students can work on some crafts! Students are also welcome to bring their own treats to share, but they MUST come with an ingredient list as we do have serious food allergies! Thank you for helping me keep our students safe! Students may also wear their PJs and bring ONE stuffy to cuddle with during the movie. I am looking forward to celebrating a successful trimester with my students!

Spanish 1: May 14th-18th

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be wrapping things up with weather/seasons and moving on to our last unit on travel/shopping. The list for this week is as follows:
  • hace las maletas (ah-say lahs mah-lay-tahs): he/she packs their suitcase
  • el traje de bano (trah-hay day bahn-yo): bathing suit
  • tiene calor (tee-eh-nay cah-lor): he/she is hot
  • se pone (say poe-nay): he/she puts on
  • el vestido (veh-stee-doe): dress
  • la camisa (kah-mee-sah): shirt
  • tiene frio (tee-eh-nay free-oh): he/she is cold
  • el abrigo (ah-bree-go): coat
  • compra (com-prah): he/she buys
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand descriptions of all weather/seasons in Spanish on a listening activity.
2) Students will be able to match clothing pictures with words in Spanish on a review packet.

On Tuesday, students will have some time to review their weather/seasons words with a partner, they will play a game of flyswatter, engage in a listening activity and finally will complete a drawing activity.

On Thursday, I will present the travel/shopping vocabulary, we will do some storytelling and students will complete a review packet.

HomeworkSpanish folders will be coming home again on Thursday. Please review the Unit 7 words with your child, sign the vocabulary list and send it back with your child's emptied folder by Monday (5/21).

Spanish 1: May 7th-11th

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be continuing on with our unit on weather and seasons. The list for this week is as follows:
  • la primavera (pree-mah-vair-ah): spring
  • llueve (yoo-ay-vay): it's raining
  • esta nublado (eh-stah noo-blah-doe): it's cloudy
  • el paraguas (pah-rah-gwahs): umbrella
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand weather descriptions in Spanish on a guided drawing activity.
2) Students will be able to describe the weather for all seasons in Spanish on a writing activity.

On Tuesday, I will present the spring vocabulary, students will complete a craft and play a game, they will engage in a guided drawing activity and I will do some storytelling as a final wrap up.

On Thursday, we will review all of our weather/seasons songs, students will engage in a writing activity and I will do some storytelling as a final review.

Spanish 1: Apr. 30th-May 4th

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be moving on to winter and fall vocabulary. The lists for this week are as follows:
  • el invierno (in-vee-air-no): winter
  • hace frio (ah-say free-o): it's cold
  • nieva (nee-ay-vah): it's snowing
  • el otono (o-tone-yo): fall
  • hace viento (ah-say vee-en-toe): it's windy
  • hace fresco (ah-say freh-skoe): it's chilly
Learning Objective: Students will be able to describe the weather of winter and fall in Spanish through song, and will be able to understand descriptions of these seasons/weather in Spanish on guided drawing activities.

On Tuesday, I will present the winter vocabulary, students will complete a craft, we will learn a new song, students will engage in a guided drawing activity and I will do some storytelling.

On Thursday, students will complete these same activities with the fall vocabulary, and if there is time we will play a game.

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be finishing up with numbers 20-50 vocabulary and moving on to our new unit on weather/seasons. The list for this week is as follows:
  • el verano (vair-ah-no): summer
  • hace sol (ah-say sole): it's sunny
  • hace calor (ah-say kah-lore): it's hot
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand numbers 20-50 in Spanish when given on a listening activity.
2) Students will be able to describe the weather of summer in Spanish through song.

On Monday, we will warm up with a game of Find Your Match, we will practice counting again from 20-50, students will engage in a listening activity and we will play a game of review BINGO.

On Wednesday, I will present the summer vocabulary, students will complete a craft and use it to play a game and as a prop for our new song, and we will review with a listening activity.

On Friday, we do not have specials due to Adroit Day.

HomeworkUnit 6 homework and graded papers will come home in Spanish folders on Wednesday (4/25). Please review the Unit 6 words with your child, sign the sheet and return it with your child's emptied folder by Tuesday (5/1).

Spanish 1: Apr. 16th-20th

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be moving on to numbers 20-50 vocabulary. The list for this week is as follows:
  • einte (vain-tay) 20
  • treinta (train-tah) 30
  • cuarenta (kwah-ren-tah) 40
  • cincuenta (sin-kwen-tah) 50
Learning Objective: Students will be able to count from 20-50 in Spanish out loud and understand numbers when stated on listening activities.

On Tuesday, we will have our first ClassDojo party!!! :) I am so proud of students for reaching their goal!

On Thursday, I will present the numbers vocabulary, students will practice counting, they will engage in a listening activity and we will play a game of Reaction Race as a final review. 

Homework: None

Other Important Info: For the ClassDojo party, students may wear their PJs, bring ONE stuffed animal to cuddle with as we watch our movie, and bring a treat to share with the class. However, any food MUST come with an ingredient list as we do have serious food allergies! Thank you for helping me keep our students safe! :)

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be moving on to some action verbs vocabulary as well as learning to state our likes/dislikes. The lists for this week are as follows:
  • vive (vee-vay) : he/she lives
  • dice (dee-say): he/she says
  • habla (ah-blah): he/she speaks
  • quiere ir (kee-air-ay eer): he/she wants to go
  • (no) me gusta (may goo-stah): I (don't) like
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to state where storytelling characters live and what language they speak in Spanish during storytelling.
2) Students will be able to state their likes/dislikes in Spanish on a writing activity.

On Tuesday, I will present the verbs vocabulary, we will do some storytelling and play a game of review BINGO.

On Thursday, I will explain how to state your likes/dislikes by showing students a song, we will complete a writing activity and if there is time, we will play a game.

Hola padres! I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun Spring Break! I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with my students. This week in first grade Spanish we will be finishing things up with nationalities vocabulary and moving on to transportation vocabulary. The list for this week is as follows:
  • el avion (ah-vee-on): plane
  • el autobus (ow-toe-buse): bus
  • el coche (ko-chay): car
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand descriptions of storytelling characters in Spanish on a listening activity.
2) Students will be able to state how they get to certain places in Spanish through song.

On Monday, I will do some storytelling using nationalities vocabulary, students will engage in a listening activity, I will present the transportation vocabulary and we will learn a new song.

On Wednesday, we will review our transportation song, I will do some storytelling, students will engage in a listening activity, and if there is time, we will play a game.

On Friday, the students will have a sub. They will be reviewing family vocabulary in my absence.

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be finishing things up with colors vocabulary (see last week's post for list) and then we will be continuing on to nationalities vocabulary. The new list for this week is as follows:
  • Los Estados Unidos: United States
  • estadounidense: American
  • Francia: France
  • frances(a): French
  • Alemania: Germany
  • aleman(a): German
  • Inglaterra: England
  • ingles(a): British
  • Mexico: Mexico
  • mexicano(a): Mexican
  • vive: he/she lives
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand colors descriptions in Spanish on a listening activity.
2) Students will be able to identify where certain countries are in the world in Spanish on listening/coloring activities.

On Tuesday, we will play a game of Red Light/Green Light, students will engage in a listening activity, I will present the nationalities vocabulary and we will complete a geography activity.

On Thursday, we will complete a listening/coloring geography activity, I will do some storytelling and if there is time, we will play a game.

HomeworkStudents will take home their Spanish folders on Thursday, which will contain all of their graded Unit 5 work and their first homework: a copy of the Unit 5 vocabulary list for review and practice. Please go over these words with your child, however you see fit (5-10 minutes of practice is ideal), sign the homework and send it back with your child's emptied folder by MONDAY (4/2).

Hola padres! This week in first grade Spanish we will be moving on to some school vocabulary and some colors. The lists for this week are as follows:
  • va a: he/she goes to
  • viene: he/she comes
  • la escuela: school
  • escribe: he/she writes
  • lee: he/she reads
  • el libro: book
  • el lapiz: pencil
  • camina: he/she walks
  • corre: he/she runs
  • azul: blue
  • rojo: red
  • verde: green
  • anaranjado: orange
  • amarillo: yellow
Learning ObjectiveStudents will be able to understand descriptions of things they typically do at school in Spanish on a listening activity.

On Monday, we will finish up our work with family vocabulary by completing a family tree for our fictional storytelling family. Afterwards, I will present the school vocabulary, we will play a game of Hot/Cold and we will learn a new song as a final review.

On Wednesday, I will do some more storytelling as a warm up, students will engage in a listening activity for school vocabulary, I will present the colors vocabulary and we will play a game of Red Light/Green Light to practice. We will continue with colors next week.

On Friday, we do not have specials due to the 1/2 Field Trip.
