Spanish 5: May 21st-25th

Hola padres! It's hard to believe this is our last week of the trimester! WOW time has flown by! This week in fifth grade Spanish the A Day class will be finishing up with their last grammar topic and we will then celebrate a successful trimester with our end of the year fiesta!

Learning Objective: Students will be able to to use/conjugate stem-changing verbs in Spanish in their grammar workbooks. 

On Monday, I will give the A Day students some information on stem-changing verbs, they will have some time to work on their grammar workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Tuesday, the B Day students will have their end of the trimester fiesta!

On Wednesday, the A Day class will have their fiesta!

On Thursday, it is the last day of school and we do not have specials.

On Friday, we do not have school due to a Professional Development Day.

Homework: Stem-Changing Verbs Grammar Workbook will be assigned Monday to be due Wednesday (5/23-A Day ONLY).

Other Important Info For the fiesta, both classes will finish our movie, I will bring in some treats to share with the class and students can bring ONE electronic device! Students are also welcome to bring their own treats to share, but they MUST come with an ingredient list as we do have serious food allergies! Thank you for helping me keep our students safe!

On Friday, we do not have specials due to the 5th Grade Picnic.

Homework:
1) Chapter 9 Workbook will be assigned Monday (B Day) or Tuesday (A Day) to be due Wednesday (5/16-B Day) or Thursday (5/17-A Day).

Hola padres! This week in fifth grade Spanish we will be moving on to Chapter 8 of our book Isabela captura un congo and our last grammar study on affirmative/negative commands. The dictionary list for this week is as follows:

CHAPTER 8:
  • regrese

Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to recall/summarize details and events from Chapter 8 of 'Isabela' in Spanish through questioning and comprehension-based activities.
2) Students will be able to give affirmative/negative commands in Spanish in their grammar workbooks.

On Monday, the B Day students will have time to work on their Chapter 8 dictionaries, we will read/discuss the chapter together as a class, I will give the students time to work on their workbooks, and we will play a game.

On Tuesday, the A Day class will complete these same activities.

On Wednesday, we do not have specials due to Field Day.

On Thursday, I will present the concept of commands to the A Day class, I will give the students time to work on their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

Hola padres! This week in fifth grade Spanish we will be moving on to Chapter 7 of our book Isabela captura un congo and our next grammar study on preterit (past tense) verbs. The dictionary list for this week is as follows:

CHAPTER 7:
  • maneja

Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to recall/summarize details and events from Chapter 7 of 'Isabela' in Spanish through questioning and comprehension-based activities.
2) Students will be able to describe things that have happened in the past using the preterit tense in Spanish in their grammar workbooks.

On Monday, I will give the B Day class time to work on their Chapter 7 dictionary, we will read/discuss the chapter together as a class and I will give the students time to work on their workbooks. If there is additional time, we will play a game.

On Tuesday, the A Day class will complete these same activities.

On Wednesday, I will present the concept of the preterit tense to the B Day class, I will give the students time to work on their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Thursday, the A Day class will complete these same activities.

On Friday, we do not have school due to the K-5 Assessment Day.

Hola padres! This week in fifth grade Spanish we will be finishing things up with our book Isabela captura un congo and moving on to our next grammar study on stem-changing verbs. There is no new dictionary list this week.

Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to recall/summarize details and events from Chapter 6 of 'Isabela' in Spanish through questioning and comprehension-based activities.
2) Students will be able to use/conjugate stem-changing verbs in Spanish in their grammar workbooks.

On Monday, the A Day class will work on their Chapter 6 dictionaries (see last week's post for list), we will read/discuss the chapter together as a class, I will give the students time to work on their workbooks and if there is time, we will play a game to review.

On Tuesday, the B Day class will finish their discussion of Chapter 6 (we did not get to this last week), I will give them time to finish their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Wednesday, we do not have specials due to the Rockies Field Trip.

On Thursday, I will present the concept of stem-changing verbs to the B Day class, I will give them time to work on their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Friday, we do not have specials due to Adroit Day.

Homework
1) Chapter 6 Workbooks will be assigned Monday to be due Tuesday (5/1-A Day ONLY).
2) Stem-Changing Verbs Grammar Workbooks will be assigned Thursday to be due Monday (4/30).

Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to understand the difference between the verbs SER and ESTAR and will be able to conjugate both in Spanish in their grammar workbooks. 
2) Students will be able to recall/summarize details and events from Chapter 5 of 'Isabela' in Spanish through questioning and comprehension-based activities.
3) Students will be able to use and conjugate reflexive verbs in Spanish in their grammar workbooks.

On Monday, students will have their first ClassDojo party! I'm very proud of them for meeting their goal.

On Tuesday, the A Day class will work on the SER vs. ESTAR portion of their grammar packet. We will discuss the difference between the two, I will give students time to work on their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Wednesday, the B Day class will work through their Chapter 5 dictionaries, we will read/discuss the Chapter together as a class and students will have time to work on their workbook pages.

On Thursday, the A Day class will complete these same activities.

On Friday, I will present the concept of reflexive verbs to the B Day class, I will give the students time to work on their workbooks and we will play a game to review.

Hola padres! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break with their families. I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with my students. This week in fifth grade Spanish, we will be moving on to Chapter 4 of our book Isabela captura un congo and our next grammar study on the verbs SER and ESTAR. The dictionary list for this week is as follows:

CHAPTER 4
  • despacio
  • explicar

Learning Objectives:
1) Students will be able to recall/summarize details and events from Chapter 5 of 'Isabela' in Spanish through questioning and comprehension-based activities.
2) Students will be able to use/conjugate the verbs SER and ESTAR in their grammar workbooks.

On Monday, I will present the concept of ER/IR verbs to the A Day class (B Day class worked with this concept last week), I will give the students time to work on their grammar workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Tuesday, the B Day class will work on their Chapter 4 dictionaries, we will read/discuss the chapter together as a class and I will give the students time to work on their workbooks.

On Wednesday, the A Day class will complete these same activities.

On Thursday, I will present the concept of SER v. ESTAR (which both mean "to be" but are used in different contexts) to the B Day class, I will give the students time to work on their grammar workbooks and we will play a game to review.

On Friday, the A Day class will have their first ClassDojo party of the trimester!!! :)

Homework:
1) ER/IR Verbs Grammar Workbook will be assigned Monday to be due Wednesday (4/4-A Day ONLY).
2) Chapter 4 Workbook will be assigned Tuesday (B Day) or Wednesday (A Day) to be due Thursday (4/5-B Day) or Friday (4/6-A Day). Students will turn in their comprehension workbooks for a grading checkpoint at this time.
3) SER v. ESTAR Grammar Workbook will be assigned Thursday to be due Monday (4/9-B Day ONLY).

Other Important InfoThe A Day class finished last week with 197 ClassDojo points with 200 needed to earn their party. They will most likely accomplish this on Monday in order to earn their party on Friday. For the party, students may wear their PJs, bring ONE electronic device and a treat to share with the class. If they wish to bring a treat, please remember it MUST come with an ingredient list, as we do have serious food allergies! Thank you for helping me keep these students safe! We will be watching a movie and I will bring in some treats to share as well.
