Science-

This week we will be beginning our STUDENT SCIENCE DEMONSTRATIONS! Each student will present a scientific principle to the class through a science experiment.

Each student needs to have their science demo lab sheet to Mr. V on the morning of the experiment or before in order to make copies for each student in the class.

The lab sheet will include the : scientific question, and space for students to write their hypothesis, the  materials used, the procedure and the conclusion of what happened and why. This can either be recreated using a Google Doc or hand written in the provided form that each student already has.

We will be conducting science experiments on Tuesday, April 4th, Thursday, April 6th and Friday, April 7th. If there are any demos that we do not get to conduct this week, those students will conduct their demo next Friday, April 14th. Ask your child what day they are conducting their experiment in front of the class.

Science demonstrations should be 5-15 minutes in length.

4/4: Keely, Eva, Emily K., Harper

4/6: Owen, Henry, Soren, Grahm

4/7: Everyone else will be prepared to do their science demo this day due to ALL DAY THEME CLASS. If we do not get to everyone on this day, we will continue next Friday, April 14th.

Social Studies-

We will be starting to discus Chapter 2 in our CO History Textbook: Life Zones. This will tie into the RESEARCH REPORTS that each student will be doing in their respective literacy classes. Students can start to find resources from public libraries as well as internet resources to determine what COLORADO ANIMAL they want to research and write about. They will then use these resource in their literacy classes to research, take detailed notes, and write their research paper.

Social Studies- Students will be reading about 3 of the American Explorers that helped investigate the land that we know today as Colorado. Student will be pulling information from the text and utilizing their own prior knowledge to create a journal entry for each explorer, explaining, in detail, what the trip through Colorado was like.

Science-
this trimester, students will examine the states of matter through a comprehensive unit on water. Students will understand that matter exists in different states such as solids, liquids, and gases and can change from one state to another by heating and cooling. We will also look at how water is distributed on Earth in different forms such as vapor, ice or glaciers, rivers, and freshwater or saltwater oceans and that there is only a certain amount of water available for human use.

Book Drive- Girl Scout Troop 2714 is having a Book Drive for Federal Heights Elementary School. Any new or gently used books would be greatly appreciated! There is a book bin located in our classroom to place the books in, and the drive will run until March 24th.

Gala Project - Our class put together two vintage stained glass windows that were hand-made by the children! These windows will be auctioned off at the Gala in order to raise funds for our beloved Stargate!

One of the images was an image or a sorceress; the other was a Colorado Flag inspired mandala.

We ask that all families donate 4-5 dollars to help pay for the materials needed for the project.

Thank you so much!

This is picture of the most recent stained glass window that the class has created.

Dojo Treats & Prizes - Thank you to everyone who has sent in Class Dojo treats! It helps out immensely! The kids love to earn prizes and it's great to keep the prize bin stocked.  I will gladly take donations at any time.

Social Studies -   Students will continue their study of the Plains Indians. During this chapter, students will identify the various tribes of Plains Indians who lived in Colorado, use map skills to trace their migration routes, describe the importance of bison in Plains Indians cultures, describe the clothing, shelter, and family characteristic of the Plains Indians, explain how the introduction of horses changed their way of life, and compare Plains Indian life in the past and the present.
