This week students will complete their personal narrative.  They will complete activities to help them focus on their writing, especially what they see and observe.

Monday: Discuss the format of the final draft. Please see the attached MLA format file.  Talk about transitions in their papers between topics.
Tuesday: Peer review of papers, focusing on sight, sound, thoughts, feelings, and editing.
Thursday: Final draft of the personal narrative is due.  Share narratives with the class.
Friday: I'm hoping to begin our first novel, if the books come in.  Otherwise we will do some non-fiction reading out of Jr. Scholastic.

Wednesdays will be devoted to specific grammar lessons For the next month, students will focus on prepositions.  They will be required to memorize all 53 prepositions.  Here are links to a couple of videos using song and motion to learn the prepositions. They will have a quiz on Wednesday over P-W prepositions.  Next Wednesday will be the quiz on all prepositions.

Students have been given an assignment they will continue all year.  They have set aside one of their composition books as a Writer's Notebook for use at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook. I will give them due dates each quarter with how many entries they should have.  The due date is Wednesday. October 14.  They should have 15 entries.

Students received permission slips for our next field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to see the Sherlock Holmes exhibit.  These are due by October 16 and your child will be receiving a responsibility grade for turning these in on time.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily.
