This week we will continue our novel study.  Most of the class will be reading Holes by Louis Sachar, and others will be reading Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan. Both of these books involve characters whose lives are changed by unfortunate circumstances in their life, and how they use their problems to become better people.

Monday: Artful Artist activity
Tuesday: Reading: Holes: chapters 40-50, Surviving the Applewhites: chapters 24-30
Wednesday: Novel vocabulary test.  There are Word documents below containing the list of words and definitions.
Thursday: DMNS field trip from 9-2, Halloween party from 2:15-3:15
Friday: Discussion Director activity

Halloween is fast approaching! In middle school, we will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, Oct. 29th from  2:15 - 3:15 pm. We are on a modified schedule this day to accommodate the 6th and 7th grade field trip in the morning and have planned the party into this modified schedule. We will have various Halloween themed activities for students to choose from when everyone gets back from the field trip until the end of the school day. Feel free to send any food with your student that you would like them to share with classmates for this time  on Thursday On Friday, students will participate in the all-school parade, then we will stick to a normal schedule. Students are welcome to wear school appropriate costumes  on Friday.
Students need to continue writing in their home writer's notebook.  As a reminder, this is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook.  The next due date is Friday, December 11.  They should have 15 more entries for a total of 30 entries.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily.
