This week we will continue our novel study.  Most of the class will be reading Holes by Louis Sachar, and others will be reading Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan. Both of these books involve characters whose lives are changed by unfortunate circumstances in their life, and how they use their problems to become better people.
Monday: Answer questions on chapters 1-5
Tuesday: Reading Holes: chapters 6-17, Surviving the Applewhites: chapters 6-11
Wednesday: Passage Picker assignment on Tuesday's reading.  Due on Monday.
Thursday: No School.  Parent Teacher conferences
Friday: No School. Parent Teacher conferences

Students have been given an assignment they will continue all year.  They have set aside one of their composition books as a Writer's Notebook for use at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook. I will give them due dates each quarter with how many entries they should have.  The due date is  this Wednesday.  They should have 15 entries.

Students received permission slips for our next field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to see the Sherlock Holmes exhibit.  These are due by October 16 and your child will be receiving a responsibility grade for turning these in on time.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily.
