Today we began our last unit of the year, poetry.
Monday: Quick write on what is poetry, what are the characteristics of poetry, what do you like and dislike about poetry.  Choose a poetry book from the class library to read.
Tuesday: How to read and study poetry.
Wednesday: Figures of Speech: simile, metaphor, idiom, hyperbole. No 5th period due to bowling.
Thursday: Figures of Speech: simile, metaphor, idiom, hyperbole. No 6th period due to The Talk. Please see Mr. Cochran's email concerning this activity.
Friday: No School due to staff development.

Students need to continue writing in their home writer's notebook.  As a reminder, this is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be 12 point font, and cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook.  The next due date is next Friday, May 13.  They should have 15 more entries for a total of 60 entries.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily. All missing assignments for the poetry unit are due May 20.
