Welcome back!  I hope you all had a wonderful break with your family.  I enjoyed a relaxing couple of weeks with my family reading, putting together puzzles, and catching up on movies.

This week we are beginning the writing portion of our short stories unit.

Monday: No School.
Tuesday: Introduce the 5 elements of a short story: Plot, Conflict, Character, Theme, Setting.  Review the plot diagram.  Begin brainstorming individual ideas for a mad, exciting story using graphic organizers (Analyze a story and Plot Diagram). Due on Thursday at the beginning of class.
Wednesday: Grammar on comma placement. Students will have a quiz next Wednesday on comma placement.  They should study the 13 rules of comma placement.
Thursday: Graphic organizers for their short story due. Begin writing their short stories.
Friday: Focus on revising characters and setting.

Students need to continue writing in their home writer's notebook.  As a reminder, this is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook.  The next due date is Friday, March 4.  They should have 15 more entries for a total of 45 entries.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily.
