We only have 10 days until the end of the semester and Winter Break!  Wow! All missing work or make-up work is due Friday, December 12 and I will not accept any work after this date.

On Wednesday we will have our Second Step, Study Skills day.  We will still have electives on Wednesday and the times will be the same however we will be doing lessons from the Second Step program as well as some study skills.  We decided as a Middle School team that there wasn't a good way for us to make sure that every child received the lessons during advisory since not everyone has an advisory so we created 4 special days throughout the year to meet to ensure that every child gets the lessons from each of these programs

Students will continue the author study of Gary Paulsen by reading Hatchet or The River.  They will be completing this unit as a literature circle.  Each student will be part of a group of no more than 5 students which will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays. As a group they will decide how many chapters they will read and which job they will complete before they meet again. They will have class time to work on reading and jobs, but if they don't complete the assignment in class they will need to complete it for homework.  Please see the attached description for each job.  Most circles will be finishing the book on Tuesday.  Tuesday I will assign the final assignment for the book study, The ABC's of Hatchet, or The River.  This project will be due December 16 at the end of class.

On Thursday vocabulary words from Hatchet or The River will be  tested.  This will be the last vocabulary test for the semester.

Students should be working on their Writer's Notebooks at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 10 minutes (Period 5) or 20 minutes (Period 6) each time. The next due date is Friday, January 9.  They should have 10 more entries for a total of 30 entries.

I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily. If you cannot see the calendar, have your child look at their Google calendars as I have shared my assignment calendar with them
