Welcome back!  I hope your break was relaxing and refreshing.  I can't believe we only have 3 weeks left in the semester!  We will be working quickly to finish our Gary Paulsen books before Winter Break.

Students will continue the author study of Gary Paulsen by reading Hatchet or The River.  They will be completing this unit as a literature circle.  Each student will be part of a group of no more than 5 students which will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays. As a group they will decide how many chapters they will read and which job they will complete before they meet again. They will have class time to work on reading and jobs, but if they don't complete the assignment in class they will need to complete it for homework.  Please see the attached description for each job.  They will be working on these books until winter break.

On Wednesday vocabulary words from Hatchet or The River are due and we will review the definitions. The test will be Thursday, December 11.

Students should be working on their Writer's Notebooks at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 10 minutes (Period 5) or 20 minutes (Period 6) each time. The next due date is Friday, January 9.  They should have 10 more entries for a total of 30 entries.

All missing work or make-up work is due Friday, December 12 and I will not accept any work after this date.

I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily. If you cannot see the calendar, have your child look at their Google calendars as I have shared my assignment calendar with them
