We had a great first week of school!  Last week we spent getting to know each other through games and compiling our student agreement about how we treat each other, our work, and environment. Students also completed their fall MAPS assessment.

Students have been given an assignment they will continue all year.  They have set aside one of their composition books as a Writer's Notebook for use at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time.  I will give them due dates about once a month with how many entries they should have.

This week will focus on reading and writing.
Monday:  Students started a bookmark about their favorite book ever.  It must contain the title, author, illustration, and one quote from the book.  It should be neat and colored.  Homework:  Finish bookmark.
Tuesday: Students will take a reading survey in class and we will discuss the value of reading different types of books.  Homework:  Write a letter to Mrs. Spriggs about yourself and reading using the reading survey as a guide.
Wednesday:  Students will begin vocabulary.  This will be the study every Wednesday.  Today students will be given words to define.  Homework:  Vocabulary words.  They need to be spelled correctly and include part of speech, the definition in their own words, and a synonym. The last section should be a story or comic using 5 of their vocabulary words.  These are due Wednesday, Sept 3 and the test over the words will be Sept 10.
Thursday: Students will begin their Personal Narrative about their transition to Middle School.  Homework:  Finish rough draft of Personal Narrative.
Friday:  Students will revise their rough draft.

Currently I do not have access to Infinite Campus.  I will let you know when I do receive access.
