We had a great first week of school!  Last week we spent getting to know each other and compiling our student agreement about how we treat each other, our work, and environment. Students also completed their fall MAPS reading assessment.

This week we will focus on writing an unforgettable story, which will become their personal narrative.  We will complete activities to help them focus on their writing, especially what they see and observe.  We will begin by thinking of 3 unforgettable stories from our lives and retelling each in one picture.  They will then choose one story to compose.

Students have been given an assignment they will continue all year.  They have set aside one of their composition books as a Writer's Notebook for use at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 20 minutes each time, which should consist of a page. They may also type their entries, but the typed pages must be cut neatly and glued or taped into the notebook. I will give them due dates each quarter with how many entries they should have.  The due date is Wednesday. October 14.  They should have 15 entries.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily.
