This week students will begin our final writing project of the year.  They will be reading a Junior Scholastic article on the history and importance of the comic book character, Wonder Woman.  They will then create their own superhero comic book.  This week we will be focusing on completing a planning guide and beginning on the storyboard of the comic book on printer paper to figure out their pacing .  This is really only for the writing and framing pieces, the artwork in the rough draft should only be for basic shapes, not the final artwork. The artwork will be in the final draft.  Once their rough draft is complete, they will get the sheets to create the final draft.  The final draft should be a complete story told with color, neat, best effort, high quality (drawings to your best effort, proofread, proper grammar, etc.).  We talked about the fact  that the character will need to be drawn many times so they should not be too detailed. We will then share our comics when we are done, roughly around the second week in May.

Students can  bring in their own comic books to show us examples.

Wednesday will be our Second Step and Study Skills day, so there will be no regular class.

Students will begin the end of year PARCC testing at the end of this month.  Check the Middle School calendar for the dates.

Students should be working on their Writer's Notebooks at home.  This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc. They need to write in it 2 times a week for 10 minutes (Period 5), which should consist of at least half a page, or 20 minutes (Period 6), which should consist of a page, each time. The next due date is Thursday, May 7.  They should have 15 more entries for a total of 60 entries.
I will put all homework assignments on my calendar at the bottom of the page. Please check it daily. If you cannot see the calendar, have your child look at their Google calendars as I have shared my assignment calendar with them.
