Happy October!

The students and I have had so much fun with our David Shannon unit last month. I am hoping they will have just as much fun this month with our new unit on MYSTERIES! This week, we will be discussing what makes up a mystery, covering new vocabulary, and working towards mastering our Daily 5 routines.

In writing, we will continue working on writing in complete sentences using a subject and action, using spaces in between our words, using correct punctuation, and discussing nouns.

You will see your child's new spelling list in their planner this week. We have three different spelling groups in our class. Each one has a different color to represent their group (pink, blue, and green). From now on, their list and word sorts will be that color. Their next spelling test will not be until Monday, October 17th. This will be when their Spelling Menu is due as well.

Thank you to all of the families who donated to our class supplies last week!

Dinner Table Talking Points

We know that kids often say they have nothing to talk about when asked about their day at school. Here are a few suggestions to help get them talking about what they learned and experienced this week. Ask your child...

1. To tell you the three types of characters in a mystery.

2. To give you three examples of words that have the "oo" and three examples of words that have the "ar" sound in them.

3. To show you "good" in sign language.

4. To share a riddle with you that we discussed in writing.

5. To tell you what a noun is.
