Thank you to those who joined me at conferences last week. I really enjoyed bragging about how well the students are doing and sharing their work/projects with you. :)

This week I will continue meeting with each reading group. We will work on various comprehension strategies, sequencing, and placing vocabulary words in "ABC order".  The students will use their magnifying glasses to find words in their text that have short vowel sounds.

In writing, we will focus our attention to "verbs". The students will learn what a verb is and be able to give examples. We will also discuss what makes a verb "irregular".

The students will receive their new spelling lists this week. There is no assignment for spelling. However, the students should be sorting their words at home as extra practice.

Dinner Table Talking Points

We know that kids often say they have nothing to talk about when asked about their day at school. Here are a few suggestions to help get them talking about what they learned and experienced this week. Ask your child...

1. To tell you what they are currently reading in their reading group.

2. To give you three examples of verbs.

3. To tell you about their most recent mystery readers!

4. To put "cat", "frog", and "fish" in ABC order.

5. To tell you how they did on their spelling test (Monday).
