This week we will begin working with our reading groups! My goal is to meet with each reading group 2-3 times a week. We will use our detective tools and skills to find words with short vowel sounds and discuss comprehension questions.

In writing, we will focus our attention to "nouns". The students will learn what a noun is and be able to distinguish all of the different types (singular, plural, common, proper, possessive, and collective).

Our class will continue working on their spelling words in class as well as at home this week. The students are to choose three different activities at home to complete on their Speller's Choice Menu. Please have your child turn in their work as well as the purple sheet on Monday, October 17th. Their test will be on this date as well.

I look forward to seeing all of you at conferences! :)

Dinner Table Talking Points

We know that kids often say they have nothing to talk about when asked about their day at school. Here are a few suggestions to help get them talking about what they learned and experienced this week. Ask your child...

1. To tell how their first round of reading groups went.

2. To give you three examples of nouns (person, place, and thing).

3. To tell you about their most recent mystery readers!

4. To tell you about their "magic words".

5. To tell you about their self reflection sheet.
