This year is just flying by. I cannot believe we are in the second trimester already!!

This week we will begin covering a different literary genre (Folktales and Fables). This will be our unit throughout November as well as December. We will begin by discussing what specifics make up a fable or folktale, discussing new vocabulary, reading various texts, and exploring their story elements. In reading group, each student will receive a script that they will be acting out at the end of the unit with their group. The students are very excited to have an acting role of their own! :) More info will be following regarding their acting opportunities.

Due to the short week, we were not able to complete our opinion paragraphs. We will continue working on these throughout this week.

The students have received their new reading log and spelling lists for the week. Their reading log will be due Friday, November 18th and their spelling test will not be until Friday, December 2nd (due to Thanksgiving break).

Here is a quick glimpse of Mr. Sergeeff in action last week. The students were actively engaged as he showed all of his memories through pictures from the Vietnam War.

Dinner Table Talking Points

We know that kids often say they have nothing to talk about when asked about their day at school. Here are a few suggestions to help get them talking about what they learned and experienced this week. Ask your child...

1. To tell you what "personification" means.

2. To give you an example of a "transition" word.

3. To tell you what the lesson is in "The Tortoise And The Hare".

4. To tell you about their new acting opportunity.

5. To tell you what a book needs to consist of in order to be considered a fable.
