This week we will be focusing on our new nonfiction unit! We will compare and contrast nonfiction books with fiction books, discuss parts of a nonfiction book, and work with vowel and consonant blends.

The students have been working extra hard these last few weeks on meeting their gem goal! We have finally reached it and plan to have a movie party on Wednesday!! The students will vote on what nonfiction video they would like to watch. Popcorn will be provided.

The students will receive a new reading log for the week. This log will be due Thursday, January 19th. The students will also receive new spelling lists this week and their next test will be on Friday, January 27th.

Dinner Table Talking Points

We know that kids often say they have nothing to talk about when asked about their day at school. Here are a few suggestions to help get them talking about what they learned and experienced this week. Ask your child...

1. To tell you who Martin Luther King Jr. was.

2. To tell you what their dream is to make the world a better place.

3. To tell you what a "label" is.

4. To tell you what a "glossary" is.

5. To tell you about their gem party!
