Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone had a great time with family and friends over break.  I also hope that whatever horrible sickness decided to descend upon the school has now decided to leave.  I hope that everyone who was sick is now on the mend.

I also wanted to thank every one who thought of me this season with a gift or card.  I am always humbled by your thoughtfulness.  I am working my way through personal thank you notes so be on the look out for those. :)

We started our new semester today with an overview of the semester.  I also showed the kiddos the testing schedule for the spring, I have attached it on the bottom of the page so parents and guardians can see what and when we are testing.  It seems like a bunch but keep in mind this schedule shows all grades that are testing.  I also have included the website for the PARCC test.  I encourage you to take some time to peruse the site and take the sample test so you can see what it will look like.  Remember that we will be taking all of our assessments on the computers this year so it will be different.

With that in mind, we need to get our research papers done before March so we can have access to the school's computers.  We will be starting a short argument paper this week and discussing our research paper.

I am working with the SS department to make the papers go with their content -7th grade will be doing a topic within the 7 aspects of culture for Ancient Rome and 6th grade will be choosing an explorer.  More information will be coming soon.

We will be taking our last vocab test for a little while next Wednesday.  Instead on Wednesdays we will be focusing on grammar and punctuation practice and review.

This Friday is the reunion, I hope to see many current and former kiddos and staff members there.  There are many great activities planned so please stop in and visit.

On February 12 we will have a parent night with Dr. Rich Shade and Patti Garrett Shade working on creativity.  Our staff will be having a staff development with them the following day.  It should be a fantastic time and I am looking forward to the time spent.  Please look for more information in the Star News coming soon.  Their website is www.curiosiateaching.com.

Kiddos have 33 WN entries due by 1/11/15.  I will be collecting them around entry 40 or so, make sure that you are keeping up to date with your entries.  Remember that this is a place to record thoughts, ideas, on-going stories, wonderings, ponderings, etc. and that you should be writing for at least 20 minutes at a time for the entry to count.

Attention all parents! We need to hear your voice! The Accountability Committee is conducting a Parent Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey. The survey will be open to all parent stakeholders on January 6, 2015 and will continue through January 18, 2015.

The survey is an important tool for the Board of Directors to collect YOUR valuable Stakeholder feedback to evaluate our special community’s progress toward our goals.

Help your child’s class win an ice cream sundae bar party served up by the Accountability Committee members. The class with the most survey responses wins the party!

Please follow these steps when you finish the survey:

1. Print the final page (the confirmation page)

2. Write your child’s and teacher’s name on the page

3. Return it to the front desk or send it to class with your student

Please use the following link to take the Parent Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey:
