In preparation for our research projects we looked at a few websites to check for reliability. Seven graders will be doing an aspect of life around the topic of Japan and the sixth graders will be doing an explorer that they have been assigned in Social Studies.  Seven graders have 5 possible topic choices due on Thursday.

We will also continue working on our argumentative essay for the contest this week.  We will be entering the Junior Scholastic essay contest with our essays around the question posed in the December issue of Junior Scholastic- Should Congress keep the school nutrition standards, change them or get rid of them altogether?.  We have had some interesting discussions around the school lunch policy.  If you haven't heard about it yet, ask your kiddo.  Please sign the permission slip to participate in the contest as soon as possible.

WN entries 37 by 1/25/15.

Astronomy- see if you can spot the comet this month as well as see some of the planets that are out now.

Two weeks ago I shared with you the up-coming testing schedule for the PARCC and a website for a practice test.  Here is another site:

http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/

Please go to this site and take the grade level appropriate practice test so that you are familiar with the format before the actual test.  There will be a page at the end with your score, please print that sheet and bring it in for a homework grade.  You will receive a homework grade for making a reasonable attempt at the practice, not the score that you score. This will be due no later than January 30.  Please have your parents sign the sheet before you bring it in.  Knowing that the test is a little over an hour, you should work on it for no longer than the actual test time.

Also please fill out the parent satisfaction survey, here is the note from the Accountability committee:  They have extended the due date.

Attention all parents! We need to hear your voice! The Accountability Committee is conducting a Parent Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey. The survey will be open to all parent stakeholders on January 6, 2015 and will continue through January 18, 2015.

The survey is an important tool for the Board of Directors to collect YOUR valuable Stakeholder feedback to evaluate our special community’s progress toward our goals.

Help your child’s class win an ice cream sundae bar party served up by the Accountability Committee members. The class with the most survey responses wins the party!

Please follow these steps when you finish the survey:

1. Print the final page (the confirmation page)

2. Write your child’s and teacher’s name on the page

3. Return it to the front desk or send it to class with your student

On February 19 we will have a parent night with Dr. Rich Shade and Patti Garrett Shade working on creativity.  Our staff will be having a staff development with them the Friday before.  It should be a fantastic time and I am looking forward to the time spent.  Please look for more information in the Star News.  Their website is www.curiosiateaching.com.

Have a great week!!!
