We are working on practicing our Night of the Notables bio-riddles on the stage this week.  I would like to see learning centers next Monday to check progress for Tuesday.  A few people are still looking for pieces to costumes, one student suggested the thrift store.  She was able to find her whole costume for under $5.  I am still working on reading the 1st drafts of the bio/auto-graphies. Remember that we have dress rehearsals Friday and Monday. Please remember that students need to be to school by 6pm on Tuesday, January 29 so that we can start promptly at 6:30 pm.  They can come in costume or get dressed here, whichever is easier for them (and you) :).   During our class meeting on January 30, we will debrief the night and have a "cast party" - if students have left overs of their food from the night before, they can bring them in to share that day.  Students also need to be writing in their Writer’s Notebooks.  They need to write three times a week for 20 minutes each time. This is a place to record thoughts, ideas, pondering, wondering, observations, etc.  They need to have 61 entries by this Sunday.

I would like to introduce to you Ms. Marcella Embry, who has happily agreed to fill the position of long term substitute while I am out on maternity leave.  Ms. Embry has a varied education and teaching history.  She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Davis and a M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction for Gifted from the University of Nevada, Reno.  As a life long learner, she has attended extra courses, workshops, webinars, and conferences including the World Conference for Gifted Children, several national and state level conferences on gifted, the neuroscience conference Learning and the Brain, a week long workshop on economics and the environment, and just about anything that sounds interesting, which most things do.  Ms. Embry has taught in public, private, charter and overseas military schools during her career as teacher.  She is please to get the opportunity to return to Stargate, where she was a 5/6 teacher for 6 years.

Remember you can stop by during our open house on Thursday, January 31 from 1-3 to meet Ms. Embry.
