We have more PARCC testing this week, make sure to get a good night's sleep and to eat a good breakfast with protein so your brain is ready to show off all that it knows :)

As mentioned in previous blogs, we have started a reading project for this month.  As we have talked about many times in class, you need to be reading at least one book for your author (L2- Avi, L3- Lloyd Alexander) with a group, one more on your own by the same author so we can discuss his writing style/technique.  The third book is one of your choice that is grade appropriate and that you have wanted to read but haven't yet.  You need to have this independent book approved by both myself and your parents.

The presentation for your independent book is due March 20.  Remember that when you finish your independent book, you are creating a presentation to advertise it to us using technology that is not a power point or slide show.  We talked about Prezi.com in class as well as Animoto and powtoon.  If you finish your presentation before March 20, you can share it before the 20th for extra credit.  Your presentation should be no less than 2 minutes and no more than 4/5 minutes. Please refer to the sheet attached to my blog the last week of February if you have questions about what to include. The 7th graders are going on a field trip on March 20 so we may miss our class time, however you still need to send me your prezi link for it to count as on time.

Writer's Notebook entries - need 51 by 3/15.  We will have a check next week, dates for each class will be announced in class.  If you have finished your required reading, you could be working on writing entries.

It was good to see many of you and your parents at conferences last week.

I have book orders available for anyone who would like to order. Checks can be made out to Scholastic Book clubs or you can bring cash to me or you can order on-line by looking for my page and using the code HFH8N.

We will start Reader's Theater this week for electives.

Dates to remember:
3/13- Both author books completed
3/18- important scene performance from group book with group
week of 3/16 - participate in class discussion about observations of author's writing style/technique, WN check
3/20- advertisement of independent book due, earlier for e.c.

Have a great week!
