Mrs. Pecosky's Theme - ARCHIVE

During theme students will continue with our Small Maps/Communities unit. This week our focus will be on directional terms, the compass rose, and grid maps. The main objective of the week is being able to follow and give directions using appropriate terms both in real life and on a grid.

If you have questions of what our teams grading system looks like please take a look at our team lead, Mrs. Martinacs, home blog and click on the documents, under the Martinac Documents tab. She has uploaded student samples of work graded with a 2, 3, or 4. If you have questions as to why one of the samples received the mark that it did please let me know. Remember: 4 goes above and beyond the requirements=100%, 3 does exactly what was asked=85%, 2 may have forgotten to complete some parts/not answered correctly=70%, and a 1 would be missing or not done=55%.

Parent teacher conference forms went home in Monday Folders (9/22). Please review the information and return the form no later than Friday (9/26).

We will have our first field trip on Thursday! The 1/2s will be visiting Anderson Farms, which ties into our community unit (lessons will be coming up in October). Students should bring a sack lunch and clothes appropriate for being outside and getting dirty.

On Wednesday Stargate will hold our first Gifted Discussion Group session. Students will participate during their specials time on the last Wednesday of each month. Students are broken up into groups of 9-10 and will meet with the same facilitator throughout the entire school year. These groups give us the opportunity to meet the social emotional needs of students along with helping them understand themselves better as learners and a gifted population.

This week we will pick back up with Second Step (Stargate's new social/emotional curriculum), which addresses the whole child as a learner and an individual. We will be continuing/concluding our first unit, Listening to Learn. The last chapter of the unit focuses on "Being Assertive" and teaches students ways to ask for help (both as a learner and socially). The main strategies are: facing the person you're speaking to, sit/stand straight, use clear and respectful words.

Don't forget! Please send your student with their recycled supplies on Friday, October 17 with the making of the monsters during the week of October 20 (the specific date will be determined later). Thank you for your support!

Homework: Don't forget to bring your homemade community building, and recycle items for the monsters on Friday.

Important Dates: August
Sept. 23 - talent show 6:30pm
Sept. 25 - Field Trip to Anderson Farms (send a sack lunch)
