On Thursday, May 17th, the students would love to welcome you into our classroom to present their State Fair Project. We are opening our doors to families from 8:15am-9:45am. We hope to see all of you there!

Please encourage your child to work on their State Project at home. The project will need completed by Wednesday, May 16th as we will be presenting to other students and teachers that day

States Fair - Every student has been assigned a state to complete a project on. The project must include an oral presentation, a costume, and a food sampling from the assigned state. In addition, they must choose one of the following, either a written demonstration, a tactile-kinesthetic, or a visual demonstration. A letter was sent home prior to Spring Break detailing the choices. If you need another letter, please let me know and I will get you another copy. Students will present their projects on May 16 and May 17.

Project Requirements:

Students will be graded on whether they have fulfilled each requirement and to what degree of quality each has been

  1. An oral presentation - Students will give a short oral presentation on their state. It must not be

more than three minutes. Students may include in their presentation what they feel is important, interesting,

or unusual about their state. They may use note cards to help with the presentation.

  2. A costume - A costume is an outfit for a person or an item/object which the state is known for.

  3. A food sample - Students will need to have a food sample that is special to his/her state. Please make only 25 small samples. The samples need

to be pre-cut and, if necessary, have toothpicks inserted to make it easier for students to pick up. Please

do not bring a large dish that is not pre-cut into small servings. This will be for the first day of your presentation only.

In addition, students must choose one of the following project demonstrations:

  • Written demonstration

  • Tactile-kinesthetic demonstration

  • Visual demonstration

What we're learning in science this week -  This week we continue our unit on the solar system. The concepts and skills students will explore are that Earth is part of the solar system, which includes the sun, moon, and other bodies that orbit the sun in predictable patterns that lead to observable paths of objects in the sky as seen from Earth.
