*Students will be taking a writing assessment this Friday.  Students will need to be at school by 8:00 A.M. and will be dismissed at 10:00 A.M.

In conjunction with our content reports we have been studying nonfiction texts. We will continue to examine multiple different nonfiction text features, and the purposes that they serve in the text.

We will continue working on our content reports on the solar system this week. Each student has received a file folder with questions and envelopes where they will keep the information for the report.  Time will be given in class to collect data and write the report.  At this time students are working on organizing their information and writing an introductory paragraph. They also will begin to work on their body paragraphs.  This report will have seven paragraphs including the introduction and closing.  I will set benchmarks for the students to help them complete this assignment in a timely manner.  Those who need more time than allotted in class may take their folder home and bring it back the next day.

Content Reports: Students chose planets that they will be working on. They will need two or more resources on their planet. These resources could be books, magazines, encyclopedia, newspaper, online-please copy these so students can bring them to school. Please Include for their Bibliography for the online resource:

Author (if applicable)

Web Address

Title of Article or Document

Date of Material (if applicable)

Title of Database

Computer Network/Service

Date of Access

Information the students will need is appearance, surface features, atmosphere, orbit, who discovered the planet, meaning of name, symbol, any interesting facts-which could include stories, myths/jokes, unique features, anything that does not fit in the other categories, etc..

Work on content reports. By the end of this week we will have 3 paragraphs complete.
