I can't believe it is already the last week of school! Thank you to everyone who has helped make my time at Stargate great! Tuesday 5/22 will be our last day together as a literacy class. We will finish the year by sharing our content reports, and reflecting on our favorite memory from 3rd/4th grade! Have a great summer!

*Our class has earned our Dojo Party. We will be celebrating on Friday May 18th with a movie/board game party. Students can wear pjs, bring a stuffed animal/blanket, board game, and snack. 

Reading
In conjunction with our content reports we have been studying nonfiction texts. We will continue to examine multiple different nonfiction text features, and the purposes that they serve in the text. 

Writing
We will finish working on our content reports on the solar system this week. Each student has received a file folder with questions and envelopes where they will keep the information for the report.  Time will be given in class to collect data and write the report.  At this time students are working on their final drafts of their content reports. This report will have seven paragraphs including the introduction and closing.  I will set benchmarks for the students to help them complete this assignment in a timely manner.  Those who need more time than allotted in class may take their folder home and bring it back the next day. Final drafts are due on Friday May 18th.

Reading

Writing
We will continue working on our content reports on the solar system this week. Each student has received a file folder with questions and envelopes where they will keep the information for the report.  Time will be given in class to collect data and write the report.  At this time students are working on the rough drafts of their content reports. This report will have seven paragraphs including the introduction and closing.  I will set benchmarks for the students to help them complete this assignment in a timely manner.  Those who need more time than allotted in class may take their folder home and bring it back the next day. Rough drafts are due on Monday May 14th.

Homework

Work on content reports. By Monday 5/14 students should be finished with their rough drafts, and be ready to work on their final draft.

*Students will be taking a writing assessment this Friday.  Students will need to be at school by 8:00 A.M. and will be dismissed at 10:00 A.M. 

Reading

Writing
We will continue working on our content reports on the solar system this week. They also will begin to work on their body paragraphs.  This report will have seven paragraphs including the introduction and closing.  I will set benchmarks for the students to help them complete this assignment in a timely manner.  Those who need more time than allotted in class may take their folder home and bring it back the next day.

Content Reports: Students chose planets that they will be working on. They will need two or more resources on their planet. These resources could be books, magazines, encyclopedia, newspaper, online-please copy these so students can bring them to school. Please Include for their Bibliography for the online resource:

*Our scheduled time for the book fair is Thursday from 8:10-8:35.  Students may make a list of books they are interested in and shop during their lunch period.

We will continue working on our content reports on the solar system this week. Last Tuesday every student picked a planet that they will be researching. Students are using the resources (book and article) they should have brought in by today.  Each student has received a file folder with questions and envelopes where they will keep the information for the report.  Time will be given in class to collect data and write the report.  At this time students are working on gathering information and writing notes on their planet.  This report will have seven paragraphs including the introduction and closing.  I will set benchmarks for the students to help them complete this assignment in a timely manner.  Those who need more time than allotted in class may take their folder home and bring it back the next day.

Reading
This week we will be attending Battle of the Books on Tuesday! On Wednesday we will have a chance to share our Stone Fox 2- sequels to Stone Fox that we spend last week writing. At the end of the week we will discuss non-fiction texts.

Reading
This week it will be very important that we were comprehending Stone Fox as we were reading because the information from the book will be used to help students write the sequel. 

Writing
This week we will be working on a culminating project for Stone Fox. Students will be writing the first chapter for a sequel to Stone Fox and create the book with a cover and summary page.

Grammar
We will be focusing on commas after intro words. Typically we do the majority of our grammar instruction on Wednesdays, so by Wednesday night students should be able to complete the grammar packet. 

Homework
A spelling list will go home on Monday 4/9/18 and the action and linking verbs test will be on Friday, April 13th.

CMAS testing is taking place this week, so our time together as a lit class is more limited than usual.

Reading Writing
This week we will continue to read Stone Fox and use journal entries and writing prompts to improve our comprehension. We are getting close to finishing this book, and next week we will begin a fun in-class project to conclude this novel. 


Homework
No homework this week! We will continue spelling and grammar once CMAS is over.

CMAS testing is taking place this week, so our time together as a lit class is very limited.

Reading Writing
This week in the time we do have together we will be working on Tall Tales. We will be identifying characteristics of tall tales, reading some examples, and ultimately the students will write their own tall tale!


Homework
No homework this week! We will continue spelling and grammar once CMAS is over.

Reading
This week we will continue reading Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner. We will transition from reading in literature circles to reading and discussing as a whole class, as well as working and reading independently. 

Writing
This week we will begin work on our poetry unit. Our schedule is a little different this week due to CMAS test practice, but when we have class together; poetry will be the focus. 

Grammar
We will be focusing on subject and verb agreement with matching tense. Typically we do the majority of our grammar instruction on Wednesdays, so by Wednesday night students should be able to complete the grammar packet. 

Homework
A spelling list will go home on Monday 3/12/18 and the short vowels test will be on Friday, March 16th.
