This is the last week to turn in any missing or late work.

This week, we look at America's reconstruction and the impact on 20th Century Civil Rights

Monday - Chapter 23 - Reconstruction; study guide sections 1-3
Tuesday -Chapter 23 - Reconstruction; study guide section 4-6
Wednesday - Chutes and Ladders game to review understand the impacts of Reconstruction
Thursday - Chapter 23 - Reconstruction; QUIZ
Friday - movie Lincoln or Glory

On Monday, May 23, I will be collecting text books. Books that are lost or need to be replaced because of excessive damage will be assessed fees in Infinite Campus.

This week we will bring the war to a conclusion including the peace accord, the 13th Amendment and Lincoln's death.

There is a lot of work to do in order to understand some of the legacies from the Civil War. 

Monday - the Battles of Antietam and Gettysburg

Wednesday - No class - Bowling Field Trip
Thursday - No class; Life Choices presentation
Friday - No classes for students

Congratulations - the scores on last week's test were some of the highest of the year. This week we look at the events in the beginning of the war and the momentum and motives for the Union and the Confederacy.

Monday - Test chapter 21 Causes of the Civil War;
Tuesday - Chapter 22 - the war begins
Wednesday - no class due to the Diabetes fund raising walk
Thursday - no class due to Civil War re-enactment
Friday - no class due to Choice Field Trip

If you would like to come out for the Civil War re-enactment, we will be at the park at 128th across from East Lake. The best times to come to see the action are from about 9:30-11 and about 12:30 - 2; bring your cameras!

Thank you to everyone who participated in last week's debate about statehood in the early 1800s. It was lively and passionate. Kids were truly able to see both sides of the argument with empathy and compassion. This week we will continue to look at the various causes and perspectives that led to the Civil War. I have posted grades for the work and assessments for Chapters 19 & 20. If you have any missing assignments, please see me this week.

This is a wild week because of Testing and the Civil War practice. Thank you for your flexibility. We will settle back into our routine just in time for end of the year field trips and other craziness! 

Monday - no class, testing
Tuesday- Unit 7 Geography Challenge - Due Thursday
Wednesday - discussion of Civil War simulation
Thursday - finish Geo Challenge, Ch22 study guide (Civil War - causes): DUE: Geo Challenge
Friday - Civil War Act it Out - Debate about admitting states to the Union.

This week we are finishing our study of the lifestyles of the North and the South and the factors that contributed to the Civil War. The schedule this week is a bit wonky and overlaps somewhat because students chose to take the test for Chapter 19 and Chapter 20 separately. 

Monday - Due: Chapter 19 study guide; In class, Chapter 20 study guide (African-American life in the Mid-1800s)
Tuesday - no class due to test schedule
Wednesday - Test over Chapter 19
Thursday - Review Chapter 20; finish the movie Race to Freedom
Friday - Test: Chapter 20

No homework over spring break!! Enjoy!

This week we are looking at the factors that impacted that set up the circumstances of the Civil War. On Tuesday, they will have a "Quest" (half quiz half test). We will have several "Act it Out"s so that students can understand from an insiders perspective what might have motivated the tensions.

Monday: Due- Current Event Article about Reform; Chapter 19 The North and South Preview;
Tuesday: Quiz/Test- Chapter 18 Reform; Chapter 19 Study Guide and Act it Out
Wednesday: Chapter 19 Act it Out
Thursday: America, the Story of US: Division and companion worksheet to compare North and South; DUE Chapter 19 study guide; Story of US Comparison;
Friday: Chapter 20 African American Life

Week of March 14

Last week we finished up our unit on the Westward movements and the cultures that influenced the West. Students did a great job on their museum boards and we ended the week with a Fiesta - yum! Thank you to everyone who brought snacks to share. This week is a bit wonky because of testing so I will only see students on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. 

Monday - only periods 3 & 4 meet
Tuesday - Geography challenge (due in class). Study Guide for chapter 18 and the Great Awakening
Thursday - Prison, Education and Slavery Reform
Friday - Women's Rights Reformation- Complete Study Guide for Chapter 18 

Due: Tues, Mar 15 - Geo challenge; Mon, Mar 21 - Google classroom assignment on Reform; Study Guide Chapter 18. TEST Monday, March 21 on Chapter 18.

Week of March 7

Last week we finished our unit on the groups of people who moved West in the 1800s, (students overall did very well on their quizzes). This week we look at the influences of the Mexicanos to the Southwest, including their contributions to Colorado. At the end of this unit, we will celebrate all of the contributions made by the various cultures with a feast. Students will be signing up to bring in snacks to share! Yummo!

Monday-  Students will also complete and discuss chapter 17 preview (Mexicano Contributions to the Southwest).
Tuesday- Students will work on ch.17 reading packet/chapter placard activity.
Wednesday- Students will finish ch.17 packet/activity.
Thursday- Students will review key concepts from ch.17. 
Friday- Students will take quiz over ch.17 DUE:  Ch.17 Study Guide
